Blood Drive on Oct. 22

The National Honor Society (NHS) is sponsoring a blood drive on October 22 in the high school cafeteria from 3-7 p.m. The blood drive is open to the public and the minimum age to donate is 16. All donors must show a photo ID at the blood drive. Sixteen-year-old donors also need a parental permission slip, which is available in the high school office as well. We are hoping to get as many people donating as possible, as there is always a need for this gift of life. The school will receive a scholarship that will be given to a senior if we hit our target number of donations. Any questions, please call the NHS sponsor Ms. Nancy Bagge at (573) 696-2281, ext.429.

Scholastic Fall Book Fair

The Scholastic Book Fair is coming soon! The book fair will be held in the Middle, Intermediate and Primary School Media Centers from October 21-25. It will be open for students to visit during the school day on Monday, October 21 through Wednesday, October 23. Then, be sure to visit the book fair while at school for parent-teacher conferences on Thursday October 24 from 4-8 p.m. and on Friday, October 25 from 8 a.m. to noon. Not only does the book fair help promote reading, it also helps our schools purchase new items for our media centers. There will be contests to enter and prizes to win with each purchase. Come by and help support our schools!

If you can't make it into the book fair at school or just want to start your shopping early, check out the online book fair. All merchandise will be shipped to the schools for pick up and all sales will earn rewards for our schools.

Sole Tree

SMGWorldwide Many children in our Hallsville R-IV Schools desperately need shoes. Last year, more than 170 students received a new pair of tennis shoes through the "Sole Tree" program. Please help SGMWorldwide with the 2nd annual "Sole Tree." During parent-teacher conferences on October 24-25, there will be a holiday tree set up in each building with removable shoe ornaments that state the gender and shoe size of a child in need.  You can also email bwilliam@hallsville.org to receive an ornament for a child in need.

Monetary donations will also be accepted for the organization to fill any unfulfilled orders and stay in the Hallsville R-IV Schools.  Please make checks out to "SGMWorldwide" or send donations to: 7571 North Fall Creek Drive, Columbia, MO 65202. You can also give the money to the building secretary or the school counselor and write "Sole Tree" on the envelope.

We had a wonderful crowd on Tuesday evening for McTeacher's Night at McDonalds! The primary staff enjoyed seeing so many of our families there and we appreciate the tremendous support we have in our community. Thank you!

On Wednesday, fireman Mark Alexander came for a visit and gave our students a tour of his fire truck. He shared important information about a fire fighter's equipment and the things to remember about fire safety. The fire fighter's visit is a favorite event for our primary students.

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences
The mid-term of the first semester is quickly approaching. We will be holding Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences for everyone in the high school to have a chance to meet and discuss their student's education. Conferences will be at the following times:

Thursday, October 24 from 4-8 p.m.
Friday, October 25 from 8-11:30 a.m.

This year we have moved the student portfolio presentation to the spring semester. During the fall conference time, grade cards will be available for parent pick-up in the high school lobby and our teachers will be located in their classrooms for parent/student visits. We are encouraging all of our high school students to bring their parents out to the conferences so the teachers can meet them. To help with participation, parents and students who attend will be given a participation card. Those that complete the card will be entered into a drawing for prizes.

During the conferences, we have a college fair in our hallways each year. We will have representatives from colleges, universities, tech schools and the armed forces. This is a great opportunity for freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors to find out more about life after high school.
