Indian Pride Marching Band is Awesome
More than fifty high school marching bands attended the Central Methodist University Band in Fayette on October 5. The Indian Pride Marching Band, under the direction of Mr. James West, won the following awards:
- 4th Place in Class 3A Field Show Competition
- 3rd Place in Class 3A Indoor Drum-Line Competition
- 2nd Place in Class 3A Street Competition (Only two points behind Macon who placed first.)
The band also scored a moral victory by outscoring and outplacing the Macon Drum-Line in the Indoor Drum-Line Competition.
We'd like to extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the parents who traveled with the band that day. They set up tents, cooked food, hauled equipment and kept the students healthy and well taken care of. They were the HEROES of the Hallsville Band.

Family Fun Run
Mrs. Lindsey Stinson started the Hallsville Roadrunners Club last year to promote physical fitness in K-5 students and teach them healthy habits they could use in their lives. They meet every Wednesday after school until 4:15 p.m. at the high school track and currently have 188 members. The kids run/walk one mile every week and their goal is to keep increasing the distance they can run before they have to walk. The students are very proud with what they can accomplish.
Besides trying to make a healthy impact on our students, one of the club's goals is to get the parents involved in a healthy lifestyle as well! The club will be hosting a Family Fun Run on Saturday, October 12 at 9 a.m. at the high school track. Bring your whole family and complete one-mile run/walk. After the exercise, enjoy some healthy snacks made possible by Hallsville PTO, Mid-City Lumber and Triple Wonders Photography. Come out, have fun and be healthy!

The primary staff and students have frequent drills to prepare in case of an emergency. The most important contributions the children can make during these drills or if an emergency were to exist are to remain quiet and to listen closely to the directions given by their teachers. It is always good to have a plan at school and at home for emergency situations.
On Tuesday, October 8, the primary staff will have dinner at the McDonald's on Clark Lane for a McTeacher's Night celebration. The restaurant will donate a portion of the proceeds for the evening to our school. If you plan to eat out or get a meal to take home on Tuesday, please consider joining us.
Picture retakes will be done on Friday, October 11 if your child missed the original date or if the photograph needs to be retaken.

We celebrated our first Character Assembly of the year on Monday. One student from each class was recognized for showing respect (August character word) and Pride (September character word). October's character word is Responsibility. High School student athletes, Savannah Fisher and Ashley Reed spoke to the students about how responsibility is important for them to be successful athletes and students.
Wednesday, October 9, is International Walk to School Day. Intermediate students will gather at the Lamone Building at 7:20 a.m. to learn about pedestrian safety, and enjoy walking to school.

Homecoming was a success. Thank you to the Student Council and the teachers this week for making homecoming a great experience. The excitement level of the students during this week made it a fun experience and we were able to cap it off with a great football game for the alumni. Thank you for returning to Hallsville High School and we hope you can make it back next year.
Academic Support round two starts Tuesday. Check with your student to see if they have been assigned to tutoring to help them catch up. Any student in support must raise their grade to a 67% in order to appeal out to the open lunch areas.
