We are excitedly planning our "Parents Go Back To School" event for September 17 from 5:30-7 p.m. This event will highlight the academic curriculum for your child and give you an opportunity to sit in their desks and play student for an evening. This is a family friendly event where the kids can play on the playground and enjoy hotdogs and chips, while the parents get to focus on their "lessons"! We hope that you'll mark your calendars for this third annual event! More information will follow soon.

We had our character assembly and celebrated our August students of the month. Our August character word was "cooperation" and our students of the month are as follows:

6th Grade: Grace Herbold and Logan Winterwolf

7th Grade: Madison Watson and Garrett Barnhill

8th Grade: Joslyn Turner and Justin Hanks

We begin this new week and month with a new character word. This month's word is "respect." Students will be learning about respect on Mondays and Wednesdays in their advisory class.

The second week of high school was just as great as our first. The student council started the week off with Student Involvement Day where all of the classes were able to attend an activities fair. The fair was set up in the north gym, and the students had the opportunity to visit with each of the different clubs and organizations we offer here. The student council set a goal to get every student at Hallsville HS to participate in at least one organization. The activity fair was used to get the clubs more exposure to the student body during their membership drives.

The student council members this year are working hard to make Hallsville a fun place to be and student involvement is a crucial factor in that. Be sure to support their efforts and encourage your children to join clubs and organizations that match their interests. Also be sure to follow our student council on Twitter @HallsvilleStuCo to receive important updates and reminders.

Friday, September 6 will be the end of our first progress report cycle. Teachers will update their grade books over the weekend and we will run a grade check report on Monday the 9th. Any student with a 59% or lower will be assigned to academic support and will have an opportunity to work with teachers during the first advisory shift to improve their grades. Once they get above a 67%, the student can enjoy the benefits of open lunch. Please use the SIS parent portal these next few days to check on your student's current progress.
