 Graduation at Hallsville
A total of 106 seniors crossed the stage Sunday at graduation in front of a packed gymnasium as the class of 2013. Later that evening, the parents sponsored the all night senior party in Columbia that was well attended. Pictures from the graduation event can be seen here. | Fifty-nine students who have attended Hallsville R-IV Schools since kindergarten gather for a picture.

 Going Viral
Hallsville Intermediate has a student YouTube star! With nearly 500,000 hits, Cole Nowlin, a fifth grader has been seen around the world in a video called, "The Extra Mile." Coal was featured in the video produced by MU student, Dan Woodward, as a classroom project. Cole's mother, Tammy Waltz-Nowlin says Cole is pursuing his dream. Cole auditioned through Tryps Children's Theater in Columbia and was cast for the lead role. You can watch the video below.

 District Magazine
The Hallsville R-IV Schools will have an annual magazine available to families enrolled in the district. The purpose of the magazine is to provide general information to our families, literature to new residents of our school district, and a handy reference piece for area Realtors, chambers of commerce, employers, and more. Copies will soon be made available in area businesses and at registration. You can also view the document online at the school website or by clicking here. |
 Senior Citizen Prom
It was a night of dancing, dining, and visiting at the Lenoir Retirement Center in Columbia. The Hallsville National Honor Society sponsored the first annual Senior Citizen Prom last week. NHS sponsors Nancy Baggee and Janet Love were pleased with the event. "Service is one of the main goals of the NHS," said Baggee. Tonia Bartlett, the organizations student president, spearheaded the project after hearing about it at a leadership academy. "It's really important that we, as students, reach out and connect with other generations. We have a lot to learn from them. Working the event got us out of our comfort zone and we had a lot of fun talking about college, life, and falling in love," said Bartlett. Click here for pictures of the event. |
 Special Olympics Luncheon
Hallsville Special Olympic student athletes gathered for an awards luncheon earlier today. Students were honored for their participation in events such as bowling, basketball, and track/field competitions. Coach John Williams recognized three senior athletes for competing since they were elementary age students. "We are going to miss them," said Williams, adding "they have been an inspiration to so many people, but I think I have been inspired the most by them." View pictures of the event here. |
 Optimist- Buddy Back Pack Fundraiser
The Hallsville Optimist Club will be hosting the 2nd Annual Heritage Days 5K Run this year on Sunday, June 16, 2013 at the North Entrance of Hallsville High School. This was a very successful fundraising event last year in support of the Hallsville Buddy Pack Program.
This is an event that the entire family can enjoy, and we invite you to participate with family and friends. Entry fees are $25 for the 5K, $15.00 for those 18 and under. In addition to our 5K Run/Walk, we have added a 1M Fun Run for kids for a $10 registration fee. Medals will be given to the top finishers in all age groups in the 5K, t-shirts to all early registrants, and participation ribbons for the Fun Run participants will be awarded. A free pancake breakfast is included in the admission fee.

CSIP Comment Period Ends June 3, 2013
The Hallsville R-IV School District is currently in the final stages of revising our Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP). The CSIP serves as the guiding document for our improvement efforts. The finished CSIP will be approved by the Board of Education and used by administration, faculty, and staff as we continually strive to provide the best educational experience for our students.
We are eager to receive stakeholder feedback on our draft CSIP document. Comments on the last draft must be submitted on or before June 3, 2013. To review the draft CSIP and provide your feedback, please click here. |

 Online Payments for Meals
You can now pay for your student's meals with online payments using a MasterCard or VISA in addition to our usual method of payment via check to your building secretary. There is a fee of $1.95 associated with the service at the time. The convenience fee is charged by the online vender and not the school. It will be added to your transaction before you check out.
You can add multiple people to your payment account and can designate certain amounts to the different people in your list. The fee is based on the transaction and NOT on each "split" of money.
You can still pay for school meals as you have in the past by sending payment in to your building secretary with your student. The online feature is merely an additional option added for convenience and we hope that you like it. We are using a company called, "My School Bucks." To try this service, click here, or see the link under "Parent Resources." |
 Summer Golf Scramble
The Hallsville QuarterBackers club is sponsoring a 4-person scramble to benefit Hallsville football on Saturday, June 13th at 8:00 AM on the Lake of the Woods golf course in Columbia. This is an opportunity to visit with Devin Johnson, head football coach and enjoy a golf outing with friends. There will be prizes for 1st and 2nd place winners in each flight and other performance prizes on designated holes. Click here for the registration form and flyer.
A few sponsorships of holes are still available. Click here if you are interested in becoming a sponsor. |

Tuesday, May 21 we hope to see you at the Primary Celebration. We appreciate the generosity of the Hallsville PTO. They will be providing hot dogs for our students and their parents and siblings. Due to the cost of the food, we respectfully request that only immediate family members attend this event. Please watch for important papers and year-end documentation to come home prior to the last day of school. The students will not need their backpacks on Friday, May 24. We look forward to seeing many of you here on June 3 for the beginning of summer school! Our students did a great job at the Fun Run on May 16! Exercise is so important for all of us, and it was wonderful to see how strong and capable our kindergarten and first grade students were during the run. Thanks to Mr. Anderson and our specialist team for making this a safe and exciting day. See pictures of the event here. |

It is a busy final week at the Intermediate Building. Last week, our students participated in the fun run day at the track and had a great time staying fit and active. This Friday, we will be hosting our annual "Beach Day," and have a wide variety of fun activities planned. Thank you for your support this past year and we look forward to seeing you in summer school. Congratulations to 3rd grader Jayden Allen and 4th grader Holly Dickinson who were drawn to receive two new bicycles. Students read books and get chances to be entered into the drawing, sponsored by the Hallsville Masonic Lodge #336. We so appreciate this support from the community and encouraging our students to read. | | Ray McKenzie, a representative of the Hallsville Masonic Lodge #336 presents new bicycles and helmets to 3rd grader Jayden Allen and 4th grader Holly Dickinson. |

One of my favorite things as a high school principal is hearing the conversations of our seniors during the weeks prior to graduation. These conversations of the soon-to-be graduates always interest me, whether it be in the hallway, cafeteria, at an event, or in the classrooms. So many are talking about the excitement of going on to college and moving out of their house - experiencing living on their own. Many of us were that way at that age, and often, didn't realize how good we had it at the time. My advice to our seniors: shortly you will find out the world does not owe you a living, but you do owe the world something. You owe your time, energy, and talent. You are important and you are needed. You have been trained very well along your journey and your next chapter is beginning. Do not sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday. That someday is now and that somebody is you. Good luck to you, and thank you to all parents, guardians, teachers, coaches, and others who helped these seniors become the individuals they are.
