Bond Organizational Meeting
Join us for an organizational meeting this Wednesday, March 6th, at 6:30 PM in the Intermediate Commons. Please consider being a part of this group to help inform people about the bond issue that will be on the April ballot.
Snow Day Make Ups

As a result of the five days of school missed due to snow, school will be in session on the following dates:

      • Monday, April 8th
      • Friday, April 19th
      • Friday, May 3rd
      • Thursday, May 23rd
      • Friday, May 24th

The last day of school with students will be Friday, May 24th with dismissal at the regular time. Teachers will have their final faculty in-service day on Tuesday, May 28th, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Spring picture day has also been rescheduled for Friday, April 19th.

Several factors are taken into account when making the decision to call off school. Road conditions are just one factor. Others include temperatures, forecasts, wind chill, but the most important is student safety.  Parents may be able to drive to work, but Hallsville R-IV is unique in the fact that we have so many county roads to cover. Superintendent John Robertson and Transportation Director George Rudisaile travel the bus routes together before making the decision to call off school. "One of our bus routes travels for more than five miles before it sees a paved road," said Robertson, adding that, "running paved only road bus routes isn't really an option for us."  Other factors include the safety of the buses on their routes, parents and students driving to school, and safety around the buildings (sidewalks, parking lots, etc.). When snow does fall, the district's maintenance staff is responsible for clearing the snow from the parking lots and sidewalks around each school.  This is a time consuming task, especially with some of the recent heavy snowfalls.
PTO Sponsored Seminar

Mark your calendars - it is your last chance to attend this parenting opportunity called "Setting Limits Without Guilt."  The seminar is this Thursday, March 7th, at 6:00 PM in the Primary Building Library.   There is no charge, and all are welcome to attend.

Setting Limits Without Guilt

is a 4 part series sponsored and funded by the Hallsville PTO and PAT programs.   In this final installment, Velda McKenzie will explore how to be fair, but firm, with our children and how to respond to life's challenging situations rather than react to them.    It will provide parents with the tools needed to create safe, connected, and problem-solving homes.
Kindergarten Registration Information
If you have a student who will be entering kindergarten in the fall or know someone in this situation, please share this information with them. If your student is five years old on or before July 31, 2013, they may begin the registration process.  There are two dates available.  The first is Monday, March 11th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The second is Tuesday, March 12th from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Registration will be at Registrar's office near the west gym. You can find the registration flyer here with more information. Click here for information on basic skills readiness for your child.
Pennies for Patients
This is the last official collection week for the Pennies for Patients fundraiser for the Primary School.  Our ending assembly will be on Monday, March 11th at 8:30 and if we make our goal, there will be a "special" event for Mrs. Jimerson.
Just For Fun!
During the snow days, we encouraged you to let us know what you were doing to pass the time. Lots of people caught up on sleep! Our facebook survey showed that most students played games and most parents enjoyed spending time with the family. Shoveling snow was also high on the list of accomplishments during the time off. Lots of people built igloos and snow forts, baking and cleaning the house was also high up on the list. Several people emailed us pictures which you can see here
Time Change This Weekend
When you go to bed this Saturday, remember to set your clock one hour forward. Benjamin Franklin is credited with the original Daylight Saving Time idea. It has been used throughout most of the United States since World War I. The idea is to make the most efficient use of day light hours by moving clocks forward one hour in the spring, and one hour backward in the fall. To read more about this idea and the history behind it, click here.
Parent/Teacher Conferences and Dinner
Parent/Teacher conferences are Thursday and Friday, March 14th and 15th. Conference times are Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 to 11:30 am. School will not be in session on those days. The Intermediate and Middle School conferences will be student led. Your child should have more information for you as it approaches. Click here for a flyer from the Intermediate building.  The Hallsville PTO and OPAA will be offering a lasagna dinner on March 14th from 4:00 to 7:30 PM. The dinner will take place in the Intermediate Commons and tickets should be purchased in advance at either the Primary or Intermediate office. You can also return the order with your child. Click here for the order form.
