 Spring Practices
February 25 is the first day of spring sports practices. The middle school has been a busy place this week. If your student is interested in playing little league baseball, they need to pick up a form in the office or can be downloaded here. Forms must be returned by March 8th. See the form for important details. We are in the planning stages for the 8th grade Recognition Party/Dance. The event is on May 21 and immediately following, we will have an 8th grade party/dance in the Intermediate Commons. This is a parent organized event. If you are interested in helping to help chaperone, help organize, donate pizza and drinks, etc., please contact Amy Bartlett at the Intermediate school or email her.
MS Quiz bowl report from Coach Rhonda Haes: In the match against the Harrisburg Bulldogs, our seventh grade team was behind by two questions every round and just could not get ahead. The final score was 170-190. Our eighth grade team was tied at the half but came back in the last quarter to win 190-160. Traveling to Mexico to compete against their middle school Bulldog team, the seventh grade team took the lead during the second quarter and held on to win 140-130. The eighth grade team took a commanding lead during the second quarter (200-60) and held on for the remainder of the game with a final score of 240-140. Most of the points were scored during the bonus round where the team came together to answer questions as a whole.

The past couple of weeks, the guidance department at the High School have been meeting with all students in preparing next year's schedules. It amazes me how many changes must be made during registration. Please look at your student's course schedules now so we can assure they get the classes that they want.
Something to keep in mind: studies that show that high school students who participate in dual-credit programs with a local college and AP courses were 2.2 times more likely to enroll in a two or four-year college, 2 times more likely to return after the freshman year of college, and 1.7 times more likely to earn a college degree within six years.
Colleges are beginning to look more at the courses taken as opposed to mainly the GPA or class rankings. Are these advanced classes difficult? Absolutely, but so is college. Part of the high school experience is to prepare students to persevere through difficult times and issues surrounding them in the next phase of their life. Our dual-credit and AP courses will help your student experience an extremely challenging class in a controlled and familiar environment. For some high school students, receiving and A or B in class is the norm. In a college class, that may be more difficult. Will they know how to respond or how to raise their grade? One of our goals is to equip them with the tools to assist them with that very task.
