 Spring Practices
February 25 is the first day of spring sports practices. High school and middle school athletes must have a current sports physical on file in the Athletic Office before they can be allowed to participate. Physical forms may be found in the HS and MS offices, online at our sports website, or on the MSHSAA website. Please be sure to use the new physical form and not the old one or one from your doctor's office- they don't have the new concussion information on them! Call Mrs. Frevert at 696-5512 Ext. 334 if you have a question about your physical date.

 100 Days Smarter
Hallsville students in the Primary and Intermediate buildings celebrated the 100th day in school on January 30th. Students dressed up as if they were 100 years old, learned what happened 100 years ago, and in Mrs. Strubel and Ms. Yeagy's 2nd grade classes students had fun building with 100 Lego pieces and wrote about their creations. They also reflected back on what their parents have told them "100 times not to do!" Working with partners, they also played a math game where they had to estimate and roll to 100, using double-digit numbers.
"Zero the Hero," visits Primary students about his role as a number, not a letter. Student's show off costumes and creations as part of the 100th day of school. |

Communication Arts AP Classes
Registration for the high school is coming up fast! The Communication Arts department will be offering some additional courses for the 2013-2014 school year, including "Honors/Advanced" sections of English I, II, and III for college-bound students; an additional dual credit course through CMU: "Introduction to World Literature" and a speech/debate option: "Competitive Forensics". Please contact a Communication Arts instructor or the Guidance Office for more details.
English I students in Ms. Horsford's class took a Friday break from reading the Sherlock Holmes novel, The Hound of the Baskervilles, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, to investigate a mystery in the high school. Students searched the halls for clues and wrote a summary of their case using Holmes' six steps in deductive reasoning. Next week, students will finish the novel to see if their deductions are correct.

Class 2 Speech and Debate District Judges Needed
On March 1st and 2nd, Mexico High School will be hosting the district speech and debate tournament with Hallsville coach Staci Johnson managing, and we need your help! If you are interested in helping students improve their communication skills, and deciding which students should advance to state, please take some time to fill out this important form. Judges are paid for their time, so it's a great opportunity to make a little cash and help out our local community. SADD Promotes Awareness
February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. Hallsville's SADD chapter has planned some events to make an impact and bring awareness to this problem in our community.
February 11th is "ORANGE 4 RESPECT DAY." Wear something orange to promote respect and healthy relationships! Wear orange shirts, nail polish, hats, scarves, ribbons, hair ties/bows, jewelry, shoes, and rubber bands in your braces. Take pictures and post about it online! Share with the world that you are standing up for healthy relationships!
* Post on Twitter or Instagram with the hashtags #TDVAM and #RespectWeek.
* Share your ORANGE 4 RESPECT photos at Facebook.com/loveisrespectpage!
Don't just wear orange - talk about it! We want to send a message that teen dating abuse is not okay! Not sure what to say? Try this -
"I'm wearing orange today to promote respect and healthy relationships!" or "I'm wearing orange to help promote loveisrespect.org and healthy relationships." February 14th, SADD is Hosting a presenter Grant Bracken from "True North" to come talk to the High School about Healthy Relationships during Advisory class time.

Senior Parent Information
We are in the process of putting together a DVD project for the 2013 Senior class. In this project we would like to have every senior represented.
Mrs. Susan German will produce the DVD. To complete the project, she will need three pictures of your student. Please send one picture before kindergarten and the other two can be any other age.
Susan would prefer the pictures be scanned, placed in a power point and then e-mailed to her at sgerman@hallsville.org. If you don't have power point, scanning the pictures and sending as a .jpg or other picture format will work. If you don't have a scanner, you can bring or send in pictures to Terri Adkins.
TODAY, FEBRUARY 4th is the deadline to receive all pictures!
You can help plan the 2013 Senior All Night Party. Monthly meetings are at 6 PM in Terri Adkin's Room. The dates for the meetings are:
- February 17
- March 17
- April 21
- May 5
All parents are welcome and we appreciate your input. For more information, contact Joni Griffin at 696-2911 or griff5000@aol.com.

Please check your child's folder on Thursday and let us know if you have any questions or concerns. Please mark your calendars and join us for the Kindergarten winter art show and concert - 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2013

Stacy Fick, Principal Jump Rope for Heart has kicked off in the Intermediate. On February 21, from 3:30-4:30, Coach Anderson will host a fitness event of jump-roping and physical activity for all students raising at least $5.00 for the American Heart Association.
Our Character Word for the month of February is Determination! This is a great word for this trying time of year. Kids can get frustrated with school work and peer relationships, and staying determined to do their best can be difficult.

Clinton Hague, Principal Katie Calvert was our weekly drawing winner last week and will receive a VIP lunch pass for the month of February. We will soon be drawing for the chance to be "Principal for a day." Our quiz bowl will travel to South Callaway on Thursday, February 7th at 4:40 PM.

 Bob Plourde, Principal
Did you know that there is a National Quiz Bowl Tournament? As a former coach, much time and effort is put into a sport as a coach and as an athlete. Academic clubs and sponsorships are no different. I believe one of the best coaches we have at Hallsville is Mr. Scott Allen. What he has done with our Quiz Bowl team is just amazing.
The enthusiasm he brings to this team is contagious and his players recognize it. The team's record speaks volumes. They have been to multiple State competitions, defeated much larger schools, dominated the schools in our conference, and all with the utmost humility and respect.
Both the varsity and junior varsity teams have qualified for the national tournament being held in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 25th. To qualify, a team must place in the top 5 of a "Qualifying Tournament" which will feature 24-36 of the most competitive teams from the state of Missouri. Mr. Allen's varsity and junior varsity "A" team accomplished this on January 19, at Rock Bridge High School. They are now preparing to compete against the top 240 teams in the country!
In the near future, the Quiz Bowl team will be fund raising to help defray the cost of this trip. Please help them with this task of fulfilling their dream and representing our great school. If you see Mr. Allen, congratulate him for his effort and thank him for the enthusiam he puts into this team...his leadership is a vital part of this group.
