Setting Limits Without Guilt
Thursday, January 24th at 6:00 PM in the Primary building library, come attend, "Setting Limits Without Guilt."
There is no charge, and all are welcome to attend. Setting Limits Without Guilt is a 4 part series sponsored and funded by the Hallsville PTO and PAT programs and presented by Velda McKenzie. As parents, we constantly ask ourselves "Am I being too strict or too permissive? Am I doing what is best for my child?" In the series "Disciplining Without Guilt," we will explore how to shift from fear to love- the secret to being fair but firm. It will teach you how to help children be successful with chores, homework, bedtime and more, and will show you how to respond to life's difficult situations rather than react to them. Remember, discipline is not something we do to children - it's something we build in them.

Senior Parent Information
We are in the process of putting together a DVD project for the 2013 Senior class. In this project we would like to have every senior represented.
Mrs. Susan German will produce the DVD. To complete the project, she will need three pictures of your student. Please send one picture before kindergarten and the other two can be any other age.
Susan would prefer the pictures be scanned, placed in a power point and then e-mailed to her at sgerman@hallsville.org. If you don't have power point, scanning the pictures and sending as a .jpg or other picture format will work. If you don't have a scanner, you can bring or send in pictures to Terri Adkins.
FEBRUARY 4th is the deadline to receive all pictures!
Our desire is to have each student represented. The video will show at their party and we don't want anyone to be left out. Please send your pictures! The Senior All Night Party Committee will give each senior a copy of the DVD as a gift at the conclusion of the all night party.
On that note, please join us to help plan the 2013 Senior All Night Party. Monthly meetings are at 6 PM in Terri Adkin's Room. The dates for the meetings are:- February 17
- March 17
- April 21
- May 5
All parents are welcome and we'd love to have your input. For more information, contact Joni Griffin at 696-2911 or email her at griff5000@aol.com. |

The Hallsville PTO and Parents as Teachers are partnering to offer an outstanding opportunity to our families. "Setting Limits Without Guilt" is the title of Thursday night's session with Velda McKenzie, an outstanding presenter for Conscious Discipline. Thanks to our PTO and PTA organizations for funding this program for our families.
"Setting Limits Without Guilt" 6 p.m. - Thursday, January 24, 2013 Hallsville Primary Library
Come learn new strategies to help your children be successful with chores, homework, bedtime and more, and teach them how to respond to life's difficult situations rather than react to them. Remember, discipline is not something we do to children - it's something we build in them.
As a reminder, the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services will provide an oral screening and apply fluoride varnish to the teeth of children in the primary building this Friday, January 25.

Stacy Fick, Principal January 31st is our next Spirit Assembly, highlighting our Students and Characters of the Month of January. January's Character word is Leadership, which fits nicely with current events, like Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the recent Inauguration of State and National officials.
Leadership in our students comes in many forms. Some student leaders do so with their actions, some lead with words. Encourage leadership in your children. Young people are positively impacting social change - through their individual contributions, opportunities with organized groups, and also by speaking out about issues that matter to them. We're hearing new perspectives because young people are finding their voices and discovering that adults will listen.
Take the time to encourage your child's leadership skills and the dividends will pay off greatly in their futures.

 Bob Plourde, Principal
HHS has a "new and improved" Speech/Debate club this year. The program has been revitalized by Mrs. Staci Johnson. Twenty-one students traveled to Warrenton, MO to participate in a speech tournament this weekend and brought home 1st place!
Mrs. Johnson brings an excitement to this club that is invigorating. Just as one finds with sports teams, the enthusiasm of the coach/sponsor carries over a great deal to those who are in the activity. I am excited about our "new" club and its successes. I'm also pleased to see our faculty giving time and efforts to showcase and develop the many talents found within our student body.
Hallsville offers a wide variety of activities for student involvement. If your student has an idea about a club they would like to see, we will do everything possible for that to become a reality.
