We want your help and input! There is a special board meeting at Central Office this Wednesday, November 28th. The purpose of this meeting is for the long range planning of our district.  We will be discussing the future of our schools as we plan for funding, building maintenance, bond issues, staffing, and more. Please come, be a part of the discussion, and let your voice be heard at 6:30 pm.
Hallsville Road Runners Club

As students and parents return to normal routines after the Thanksgiving break, a group of more than 130 students are ready to "get moving." The Hallsville Road Runners Club is a new opportunity this year for students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Each Wednesday afternoon from 3:30 to 4:30 students, parents, and sponsors gather in the Primary and Intermediate School buildings. From there they to go to high school track. During that hour, students are encouraged to run as much as possible and keep moving. After the first four laps are completed, the students regroup to get their "healthy homework assignment." According to Lindsey Stinson, who developed the club, this assignment is designed to help each student become an overall better person - physically and mentally. Stinson said the clubs goal is to promote fitness as fun, encouraging students to get moving, eat healthy, have a good time with friends, and remaining active.

Stinson, who is a certified personal trainer at Pro Fitness, has a passion for healthy lifestyles, which was the reason behind the organizing this group.  "I've been so impressed with the Hallsville community," said Stinson. "The amount of support and positive comments have been amazing." Stinson is assisted by teachers and parents who help with supervision. The Hallsville PTO, Triple Wonders Photography, Mid-City Lumber, and Pierson Construction have also contributed to this club by sponsoring water, snacks, and funds to purchase rewards for students.

The club is open to all students in kindergarten through fifth grade and meets each Wednesday after school.  During inclement weather, the students go to either the Primary or Intermediate building for indoor activities.

Our 3rd grade will be focusing on questioning and comprehension. In math, they will begin their unit on measurement and polygons. Even though these are big topics alone, third grade has a very special project this time of year called Boxes of Hope. Each student is randomly assigned a "secret" partner for which to create a box full of special writings, warm wishes and a special home made gift that will be exchanged during the winter party. This project is just another way that we can show others we appreciate their differences and are able to find the "special" in everyone.

We have welcomed several new students to Hallsville Intermediate in the past week. Welcome to 5th grader Cameron Todd and family.
Welcome to 3rd graders Lauren Kirk and Kailey Jackson and their families. Welcome to 2nd grader Malachi Larson and family. We are glad to have you as part of our school and community.

Last week the Hallsville Community Educator of the Year was announced. The winner was our very own Mrs. Sides! If you see her, be sure to congratulate her on this prestigious award or send her a congratulatory email here! Watch for the story and pictures of the presentation in a future newsletter.  She will be presented with the award on Wednesday, December 5th.

We had a very exciting spelling bee last Monday, and Olivia Fowler was the winner for the second year in a row here at the middle school. Colin Weber did a great job as well and finished second in the competition.

Several backpacks were purchased through the Hallsville Masonic Lodge funds for our students K-12.  High school classrooms and clubs have been "adopting" these packs with the goal of stuffing the backpacks with stocking stuffer items.   Items such as school supplies, toiletries, socks, gloves, etc as well as fun stuff (candy, gift card, etc.) are encouraged.  Twelve backpacks have been officially adopted with eight big backpacks and two smaller ones still available.  Backpacks will be handed out to the kids (or parents to give as Christmas presents) the few days prior to Christmas break.
For more information, contact Mrs. Austene at 573-696-5512 Ext 325 or email her.
