 Communication Team Forming
We hope that you have noticed a change in communications. In order to keep moving in this direction, we are forming a team of community and district members to assist us in ways we can serve you. We are looking for people who live, work, and/or have students in our district. Members should be willing to meet at least quarterly and go over communications, providing feedback. If you are interested, please click here to tell us more. If you have questions, please contact Roger Brallier at 573-696-5512 Ext 329. |

Into the Woods
Crowds flocked to the North gym of Hallsville High School as the theater department presented the musical play, "Into the Woods." The main characters come from childhood favorites such as "Little Red Riding Hood", "Jack and the Beanstalk", "Rapunzel", "Cinderella", and others. The plot line includes a baker and his wife and their quest to begin a family, and their interaction with a witch and her curse on them. Students worked for many hours learning lines, blocking, set construction, and costume preparation. Pictures of the event can be seen on our Facebook album.

Speech and Debate Club
The Hallsville speech and debate teams has a new arena this year for competitions. Under the leadership of Mrs. Staci Johnson, approximately 20 students enter events in the National Forensic League, a nation-wide speech and debate society. The club practices weekly in a four hour block after school as an extra-curricular program. Students develop speaking, research, writing, and reading skills in categories like debate, original oratory, storytelling, duet acting, impromptu speaking, poetry, interpretative events, and more. Mrs. Johnson believes these skills are important for students to have, and adds that with so many categories, "there is truly something for everyone." Students will compete throughout Missouri and will participate in district competitions that could lead them to the state tournament in Columbia next spring.
Students will also be eligible to compete at NFL districts in St. Louis with the chance to qualify to the national tournament in June, in Birmingham, Alabama. "The students are excited about a new opportunity to compete, the chance to become a state champion, and for a new way to earn a varsity letter here at Hallsville," said Johnson. For more pictures, click here.
Students mirror each other as a warm up.

Mrs. Johnson goes over upcoming tournaments.

We were happy to have many of you on campus and in our building this week! Congratulations to running club members and their families who completed the family "Turkey Trot" run on Saturday, November 10. Lindsey Stinson did a wonderful job of organizing and facilitating this event.
We were honored to have approximately 30 veterans in attendance for our Veterans' Day Assembly as members of VFW Post 6276 led our program on American flags and primary students performed for our visitors.
On November 13, approximately 400 guests visited Hallsville Primary for the First Grade Concert. Thanks to our first grade students, their teachers, and Ms. Nittler for the wonderful job they did on preparing for this performance.
It was great to have 140 guests for lunch during our Thanksgiving Feast. The children were so excited! Thanks to all who were with us!
Mid-term progress reports will be sent home on Tuesday, November 20. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher. Primary staff members welcome the opportunity to meet with parents and guardians at any time, and we appreciate the partnership between home and school that makes success possible for our children.
Happy Thanksgiving! May this holiday be filled with many reasons for us all to be thankful!
Sunshine and nice weather made for the perfect backdrop on Saturday, November 10th as our Primary and Intermediate students went on a "Turkey Trot" as part of the walking club. Lindsey Stinson organized the event. Watch for next week's article on this new club.

Career Day last week was so successful! Thanks to all of our presenters. Students heard from a variety of professions. The best part was that we had several compliments from the presenters about how well behaved our students were!

Student Scholarships and Hallsville Masonic Lodge
by Kellie Austene, HHS Guidance Counselor
In partnership with the Hallsville Masonic Lodge, our students were the recepients of $3,000 that was designated for students K-12 that were in need of clothing. We began this project last year and plan to continue it annually. We were able to serve 35 students this year and take them winter clothes shopping. This is an increase from last year and was very appreciated! We have some amazing people in our community that truly do make a difference to our students in need. Anyone interested in donating to this project can contact any Masonic Lodge member, or Kellie Austene at the high school guidance office. |
