Julia Green selected as ASCE's 2014 New Face of Civil Engineering
Each year, ASCE names ten civil engineering professionals under the age of the 30 as the New Faces of Civil Engineering. This recognition program honors the nation's most promising, diverse young engineering professionals by highlighting their professional contributions and noting the direct and positive effects they have on people's everyday lives.
Finalists for this recognition will be shared with The National Engineers Week Foundation to be considered for the New Faces of Engineering Professional Edition recognition program. This national program includes representatives from the civil, mechanical, electrical, chemical, industrial and manufacturing engineering professions. The selected New Faces profiles are featured in USA Today, key ASCE publications and profiled on the National Engineers Week website during National Engineers Week.
ASCE has also posted a video interview of Julia @ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iVoeTQhFAJM
Please help us in congratulating Julia Green on being selected for this distinguished honor from ASCE. |

ECoB Award Nominations Due
Biringham is fortunate to have professional engineering societies that work hard to collaborate and share activities and members. The Engineering Council of Birmingham (ECoB) is one organization whose specific purpose is to promote and coordinate the activities of its various member societies. One way in which they do this annually is to recognize the Engineer of the Year, the Young Engineer of the Year, and the Distinguished Service Award from among the nominations of all their member societies. The time is quickly approaching for ASCE to submit its nominations, but we can't do it without your help!
If you or a colleague would like to be considered for ASCE's nomination for Engineer of the Year, Young Engineer of the Year, or Distinguished Service Award, please see the application criteria and forms at the EBOB website (http://www.ecob.org/Awards.html). Nominees will be honored and award recipients announced at ECOB's annual E-Week awards banquet in February.
Send your completed application form to secretary@bham-asce.org by November 25th. |

As a committee member you will receive the scholarship applications (it has typically been 6 or 7 applications). Read, evaluate and rank the applicants based on the applications. You will need to be able to spend a few hours doing the evaluation in April 2014. If you are willing to help out please forward your contact information to Susan Goertz, Birmingham Branch ASCE Scholarship Chair, sgoertz@mindspring.com
A link to last year's scholarship application can be found at http://www.bham-asce.org/pdf/2013%20Scholarship%20Application%20Form.pdf

| 2013-2014 Birmingham Branch Annual Dues
It's that time again! Please consider investing in the Birmingham Branch by paying dues for the 2013-2014 fiscal year. Payments are accepted online at http://www.bham-asce.org/membership/ or in person at the monthly meetings. Dues are $20, and the funds are invested back into through Branch to provide members outreach, social, and professional development opportunities. Please note that the Branch dues CANNOT be paid via the national ASCE website. Dues payments made while renewing National dues go toward Section dues and NOT Birmingham Branch dues. |
