Greetings!
Greetings!

Where has the summer gone?!  I hope you have been able to get out and enjoy the great weather we've been having.  It's Minnesota State Fair time, so we know that fall is just around the corner!

As many of you know, we lost my brother, Steve, to ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) a couple years ago.  Each year, my family and I participate in the Twin Cities Walk to Defeat ALS to support those dealing with this devastating disease, as well as to help find a cure.  If you would like to donate to our team, please click here.  Any amount is greatly appreciated!

In this month's newsletter article, I have a number of tips for using short cut keys to enter dates in QuickBooks. We use dates for almost every transaction entered in QuickBooks, so knowing some of the short cuts can save you time and keystrokes when entering a transaction.  Over the course of a day, a week, or a month, this can really add up!

Feel free to share this newsletter with colleagues, friends or business owners who you think might benefit from the information.

Have a great month!

How to Use the Various Date Short Cut Keys in QuickBooks to Save Time When Entering Transactions

ProAdvisor Logo

This month I wanted to share with you a number of short cut keys you can use when entering dates in QuickBooks.  These short cuts should work in all version of QuickBooks - whether you are using the Windows Desktop, Mac or Online versions.  Try out the various options and see which one(s) work best for you. Even if you use just a few of them, these little gems can be HUGE timesavers!

  • For today's date, type the letter t in the date field.
  • To advance one day from the date in the field, type the plus sign (+).  Each time you hit the plus key, the date will advance by one day.  So, if you want to go ahead 3 days, hit the plus key 3 times.
  • To go back one day, use the minus sign (-).  Works the same way as the plus key; each time you hit it, it goes back 1 day.
  • For the first day of the current week, type the letter in the date field.
  • For the last day of the current week, type the letter k in the date field.
  • For the first day of the current month, type the letter m in the date field.
  • For the last day of the current month, type the letter h in the date field.
  • For the first day of the current year, type the letter y in the date field.
  • For the last day of the current year, type the letter r in the date field.
  • Use only the month & day for current year - mmdd.  QuickBooks will enter the year for you automatically.  Another option is to enter the date as m/dd.
  • To display the pop-up calendar, press Alt + Down Arrow, then select date from calendar.

If you have questions on using any of these short cuts or if they don't seem to be working in your version of QuickBooks, contact me for further assistance at 763.227.1841 or email me at Tracey@FirstTierAccounting.com.
