Greetings!
Greetings!

Hard to believe another year is coming to a close!  Hope it has been a rewarding and profitable year for you all!

This month's newsletter focuses on the new 2015 releases of the QuickBooks program and the added features in those new releases.  I also detail out some new enhancements which are part of the upgrade to QuickBooks Online that just occurred earlier this month.
(NOTE:  If you are using QuickBooks Online, you are auto-matically upgraded to the newest version.  No need to manually upgrade).  If you have questions on specific features or want to review which QuickBooks program is best for you, just give me a call.

Remember that if you are using QuickBooks 2012 or an earlier version, you should upgrade to QuickBooks 2015 before April of next year.  I can get a significant discount on all QuickBooks products, which I am happy to pass along to my clients, so check with me before you purchase any new QuickBooks software to make sure you get the best discount available at the time.  I can also assist you with loading the software and updating your files, so be sure to schedule a time with me if you'd like my assistance.

Feel free to share this newsletter with colleagues, friends or business owners who you think might benefit from the information.

Wishing you and your families a warm and wonderful holiday season and a happy new year!

In October 2014, Intuit released QuickBooks 2015, the newest version of QuickBooks.

As with previous releases, there are a number of new features included in the new 2015 programs.  I've detailed out some of the more significant upgrades below.  For QuickBooks Online, the upgrade was applied automatically and you should see those features available when you log in.

QuickBooks for Windows (Pro, Premier, Enterprise)

  1. Insights Dashboard - New Insights tab on Home Page provides a snapshot of the company's performance.  Instantly see profit and loss, income and expenses, along with top customers.   Also has options to customize what info you want to view on the dashboard.
  2. Reports Redesign - Reports in QuickBooks have a new, refreshed look.  The new modern design includes background shading, vertical and horizontal lines and an improved format to make it easier to read the reports.  Also new features that allow the user to search fields in the modify format area make for easier customization of reports, and a new "Comment on Report" features allows user to add comments to a report before saving or emailing.
  3. Notes Redesign - New option allows user to pin a note prominently in the upper corner of the Customer, Job, Vendor or Employee Information window.  Makes it easier to see critical notes on records in this area, without having to look through entire notes list.
  4. Reminders Window Redesign - Reminders are now grouped by today's tasks, and separated from upcoming reminders, so user is better able to keep track of current tasks due.  All reminders can be viewed on one page.

QuickBooks for Mac for 2015

  1. Searchable & Sortable Registers - When a register is open, there is a new search box in upper left corner that allows user to search and sort by an alpha or numeric value, making it easier to locate specific transactions.
  2. Save File for Accountant - creates a backup copy in the Windows format (.qbb) that can be restored by QuickBooks for Windows.  Makes it easier to save and send files to your accountant in the proper format.
  3. Improved Budgets Interface - redesigned interface makes it easier and faster to enter and update budgets in QB for Mac.
  4. Improved Deposits Window - quickly access your deposit history in the improved and easy-to-use Deposits window.
  5. Sales Tax Liability Detail - new functionality allows user to drill-down on any field in the Sales Tax Liability report to see detail.

QuickBooks Online - Updated December 2014

  1. Redesigned Settings - New cleaner and easier to read settings in Company Settings make it easier to navigate.
  2. New Split View Screen for Customers - customer list appears in the left navigation bar, while the details for the selected customer appear in the right screen.  Allows you to easily switch to a different customer and view the details without having to exit the current screen.
  3. Enhanced Matching for Banking Transactions - allows you to filter transactions by type and partially match transactions to open invoices and bills.
  4. Multiple Sales Forms Templates - You can now create multiple invoice templates, so you can have different formats for different locations, sub-divisions or retail/wholesale invoices.
  5. More Enhanced Lists - Chart of Accounts, Recurring Transactions, Products & Services, Locations, Payment Methods, and Terms & Classes all have enhanced list features.
