President's Message

Dear Members:

Welcome to our 2013 fiscal year for the American Society of Interior Designers.

It is a privilege to belong to an association where members are encouraged to get involved and welcomed to participate in the strengthening of the chapter. I am proud, honored and excited to serve as president of the of ASID Ohio North chapter this year and to be part of a community in which members learn, celebrate achievements, expand their business, and network with colleagues and friends in the northern Ohio region.

Let me introduce myself to those I have not met yet.  I have been a member of ASID since 2006, coming from a diverse background in design - I have worked with architecture and interiors in Brazil and in Cleveland.  I completed a Master Degree in Urban Design from CSU and have been teaching design for almost 2 decades, in addition to be leading the interior design program at Virginia Marti College for almost 5 years.  I believe my academic background combined with my awareness of the global cultures and leadership abilities will help our team leading the chapter to its continuing success it has been experiencing in the 21st century.

This chapter's enthusiastic volunteer board and committee members are eager to work with you this year and promote the value of your membership in this interior design region. With your support and involvement, our chapter will grow and continue to provide invaluable opportunities to your professional development and business progress.

Help me welcome to the 2012-13 ASID OH North Board:

President Elect: Laura Gills, ASID

At-Large Director: Kara Hungate, Allied ASID

Communications Director: Lisa Thomas, Allied ASID

Financial Director: Tracy Hartong, Allied ASID

Membership Director: Kaleigh Cody, Allied ASID

Professional Development Director: Lisa Perfetto, Industry Partner Representative

Student Rep to the Board: Wendy Grieve, Student ASID

Thanks for your generous volunteerism, ladies!

Please take advantage of the chapter's website at www.asidohio.org or join us on the ASID Ohio North Chapter Facebook page.  - to stay informed about the latest events, educational and professional developments, and member benefits and services provided to you.

We are looking forward to RealWorld Design Week in November and the many educational and social programs of 2012-13.

Invite a friend, a colleague to become involved - through the "Share the Love" program you will receive a $50 voucher for every new member you recruit.

Thank you to all who attended the Annual Meeting, hosted by the Contessa Gallery and Stoneworks, Industry Partner ASID.  What a superb space...what is more inspiring to designers than to be surrounded by stunning art?  Thank you to the companies and individuals that donated items for the auction which benefited the ASID Foundation.  We exceeded our expectations!

I read once, "A member of a non-profit organization is like the shareholder of a profit-oriented entity who is responsible for the success of the company."  Become involved, join us in sharing your experiences and contribute to an exciting year of change and opportunities.

On behalf of the 2012-2013 Board, we look forward to serving you this year. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, concerns and suggestions. Please let us know what you need and we will help you find it. Hope to see you at our upcoming events!

I look forward to meeting you and working with all of you this year.

If you appreciate beauty in all its forms, you will enjoy this exhibit of masterful flower arrangements representing the Ikenobo, Ohara and Sogetsu schools of Ikebana. Ikebana is an ancient Japanese art that involves arranging flowers to conform to certain principles of harmony, balance and beauty. One of the group's notable achievements was the dedication of the Japanese Garden at Cleveland Botanical Garden in 1975. It was designed by Cleveland-born designer David Slawson, a notable designer of Japanese gardens. Free with Garden admission.  For additional info: https://www.cbgarden.org/
