National Park Service Oregon Trail |
The National Park Service has identified the Pappan's Ferry crossing in Topeka as a significant site on the historic Oregon-California Trail. Three to four members of NPS' landscape architectural team will be in Topeka the week of Aug. 22-26 to explore ideas for interpretation and development of this historic site. The public is invited to partake in various activities throughout the week including the National Park Service's 100th Birthday! Anyone may also fill out a feedback form to share your thoughts on the park's purpose. See the week's agenda and feedback form here.

National Night Out 2016 is Saturday, August 6! National Night Out is an opportunity for the community and law enforcement to come together to form a powerful partnership in the fight for a safer, crime- and drug-free community!

Building Community in Unexpected Places: Bloomerang Studios & Brewster Place

As a Heartland Visioning Steering Committee member and Topeka native, Carol Bradbury is working to increase community pride in Topeka through her business, Bloomerang Studios. In its eighth year, Bloomerang continues to find new ways to bring art to those who need it most. In a recent project, Brewster Place invited Carol to create an inter-generational art experience resulting in a beautiful glass installation for Brewster's new "Main Street." Read more here!

Topeka-Shawnee County has come together around a strategic planning effort to make the community a more prosperous, successful, and vibrant place to live and visit. The Topeka-Shawnee County Holistic Economic Development Strategy will be a comprehensive, actionable, and consensus-based plan to guide the community's collective actions in the years to come. As part of this process, we invite anyone who lives or works in Topeka-Shawnee County to share their perspectives about the community and its future via an online survey, open to everyone in the community.
