The NOTO planning initiative has been busy generating ideas and concepts for the development and enhancement of the North Topeka Arts District. On the evening of April 6, 6:30pm at Serendipity, 820 North Kansas Avenue the consulting team will conduct a community visioning workshop that will address the following:
  • Area-wide plans affecting NOTO
  • Potential future boundaries of the district
  • Concepts for new and infill development
  • Design ideas for enhancing public spaces
  • Streetscape, storefronts, gateways and public art
  • Concepts for reorganizing NOTO's management structure
  • Potential of a historic district designation
LaMotte West principal John LaMotte, AICP said "this next phase will focus on the future and how stakeholders can take NOTO to the next level of development and management." Concepts and strategies will be provided based on the consultant team's research and field work as well as the community's input. Read more here
Visioning in Silver Lake

Heartland Visioning facilitated a community engagement with the Silver Lake, KS PRIDE Community. Forty community members joined the discussion about Silver Lake's strengths, opportunities, aspirations, and next steps.

For more than 45 years, the Kansas PRIDE program has assisted grassroots community driven efforts to improve the quality of life in local communities. Sounds a lot like Heartland Visioning, huh? Through the Kansas PRIDE program, local communities identify what they would like to preserve, create, or improve for their future. Working with the resources of K-State Research & Extension and the Kansas Department of Commerce, community volunteers pull together to create their ideal community future.

To join or learn more about the different PRIDES in Shawnee County you can contact Cindy Evans, K-State Research and Extension Executive Director. In Shawnee County our small towns and big one (Topeka) face many challenges and opportunities. By coming together we can make positive change for the future!
