HCC Earns Energy Rebate Award

They say good things come to those who wait and for HCC, the wait is over. After five years of energy saving enhancement projects, the school recently earned a rebate award of nearly $19,000 from Kentucky Utilities Company.

The rebate dollars were a result of the Energy Savings Performance Contract completed at HCC in 2010. The contractor for the project was Energy Systems Group (ESG) from Evansville, In. Working with ESG, the college completed more than $1,000,000 in energy savings improvements on campus. The cost of the improvements was funded through the utility savings generated by the enhancements. This included more efficient lighting, water savings, new boilers in the administration building and a new energy management system to control all heating and air conditioning systems.

"Henderson Community College is appreciative of this recognition and support from KU's Commercial Rebate Program for HCC's stewardship of its energy usage," said Dr. Kris Williams, President. "From each person to campus-wide efforts on energy-efficient renovation and conservation, students, faculty and staff are all focused on campus sustainability."

The Commercial Rebate Program offered by KU and its sister utility, Louisville Gas and Electric Company, was designed to encourage qualified commercial customers to replace inefficient equipment with high-efficiency lighting, motors, pumps and air conditioning equipment, as well as customized facility improvements that reduce at least one kilowatt of peak energy usage.

Commercial customers who participate in the utilities' Demand Side Management program are eligible to participate.Visit lge-ku.com/rebate for more information.

Henderson Community Theatre

Henderson Community Theatre announces open auditions for its fall production, Picasso at the Lapin Agile by Steve Martin, at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, and Thursday, September 8, at the Henderson Fine Arts Center. This absurdist comedy is set in 1904 in a Paris cafe. According to comedian and playwright Martin, "Focusing on Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity and Picasso's master painting, Les Demoiselles d'Avignon, the play attempts to explain, in a light-hearted way, the similarity of the creative process involved in great leaps of imagination in art and science."

Director Steve McCarty will cast eleven roles, including seven men and two-to-four women varying in ages from early 20s through 60s. The audition will include cold readings from the play.  Interested auditioners who can't make either audition are encouraged to contact Mr. McCarty at steve.mccarty@kctcs.edu or call 270 831-9810 to arrange for alternate times. The cast will rehearse on Monday and Thursday evenings with performances at the Henderson Fine Arts Center on November 11 and 12.
