News on the Henderson Fine Arts Center
|
Henderson Community College is proud to host the Fine Arts Center-- an extraordinary building on the Henderson campus available for use/rental for everything from Broadway shows to intimate wedding receptions. Center staff work hard to ensure an excellent experience for patrons and community partners in facility use. The Center is regularly utilized by the Henderson Area Arts Alliance, Henderson Public Schools, Kyndle, business and industry and others to host their events. Rentals make up the base of the Fine Arts Center's budget and the college provides additional support. The income from rentals is not adequate to cover expense and HCC is looking for additional ways to ensure the Fine Arts Center remains open for community use. The Gleaner provided a series of excellent articles on the Center and the concerns it faces. HCC & HCHS Partner on Writing Center
|

The HCC Writing Center will offer one-on-one writing consultations at the HCHS Preston Media Center.
Beginning Thursday, Aug. 25, juniors and seniors can meet with an HCC writing tutor for help with their academic papers and creative writing assignments every Thursday from 3:30-5 p.m. Bill Gary will be this semester's off-campus HCC Writing Center consultant at HCHS. This off-campus service is designed to promote quality writing, to enhance academic success, and to strengthen HCC's community connection.
The mission of the HCC Writing Center (WC) is to support writers of all skill levels and in all disciplines to develop and use effectively writing processes that will serve them for a lifetime. The WC staff strives to offer meaningful feedback and to encourage students to take part in an open dialogue in one-on-one and small group writing consultations. The WC staff is guided by the principle that students have agency over their writing, while tutors and writing consultants act as advisors and readers within the writing process. This approach allows students, to keep ownership of their ideas and their writing and improve their critical thinking skills through consultation. The WC's aim is to help patrons recognize their writing strengths and trust in their abilities to become critical thinkers and confident writers.

BuildSmart Renovations Continue Forward
|

The HCC BuildSmart projects are moving forward. Work has commenced on the redesign of the Administration Building facade, generously funded by a large donation from a community benefactor. The door to the entrance from the parking lot (which has become the main entrance) is being redesigned and the pipes and chillers are being hidden behind a brick wall. It is going to be beautiful!
The new drain in front of the HFAC is now protecting the lobby from flooding and carpet for the lobby, galleries, offices, and hallways is ordered and on its way. The new Nursing Classroom and Student Lounge are complete except for finishing touches and furniture and the new physics/biology room is also complete. New concrete and renovations are finished in front of the A&S Building.
The Library bathrooms for the second floor are well-underway and the radon mitigation work is complete. Work on roof replacement and repair begins in the spring and work in the Arts & Sciences and Administration Buildings will be completed next summer. Check out photos on Facebook from many of the renovations or head to campus for a tour!
