President's Perspective
Dr. Kris Williams

USI Signing Ceremony: Dr. Linda Bennett, President of USI, will be on campus Tuesday, July 19 at 1:30 pm in the Cyber Caf. Please attend the signing ceremony and help HCC celebrate our stronger transfer agreement with the university!

Pok: Is anyone playing Pokmon Go on campus during their breaks? Joe Heerdink has let me know that HCC has two Pok stops and a Pok gym (the HCC Weather Monitoring Device - Pokemon Gym; The Optimist at HCC - Pokestop; and the Henderson Water Tower - Pokestop). I've downloaded the game but am not sure I am ready for it's (apparently) addictive qualities. Here's an interesting article Paul Kasenow shared on the phenomenon and its effects on mental health.

Innovative!: Check out Kara Becker's chem class commercial on Facebook. The link is elsewhere in today's Green Street!

Highway 60: Survey and consultant work is underway to move over the utilities by HCC in preparation for the widening of Highway 60. Altogether, the widened highway will come close to the concrete curb of the island around the big digital sign on 60. Don't be surprised as you see flags and work efforts in the months to come.

New Chair: HCC will be purchasing Node chairs for the new Nursing lab, 3rd floor, A/T building. These chairs are designed to provide interactive learning spaces. Faculty will be able to try out the room with their classes beginning later in the fall term (and when Nursing isn't using the space).

Youth Truth: Randa Gary shared these youth college-readiness perception numbers with me this week. It is an interesting look at what youth are feeling about college. Click through the Twitter link to see the article.

Smoking Cessation Help: Quit Now Kentucky is offering eight (8) weeks of free Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) to all callers who enroll in coaching between June 20, 2016 and August 15, 2016. This offer is coinciding with an increased number of PSAs from the CDC's TIPS from former smokers public awareness campaign. To enroll, Kentucky residents may call 1-800-Quit Now (1-800-784-8669). The quitline offers services in both English and Spanish from 8 a.m. - 1 a.m. EST Monday through Sunday.
Share Your Skills
Lorie Maltby

talent_business.jpg Share your skills at a "How-To" program. Do you have a skill you'd like to share with others? Or a hobby or unusual ability? The Henderson County Public Library is offering a "How-To" day program from 10 am to 4 pm on October 22. The library is looking for individuals or small groups interested in presenting their "How-To" skills in a group setting. People interested in participating in this event are asked to send their name, address, skill description, and how much time is estimated to complete your skill to: Henderson County Public Library, Attn: How-To Day, 101 S Main Street, Henderson, KY 42420.

If you are able to participate, please get involved in the HCC Speaker's Bureau coordinated by Kim Dean and Karen Guess.

These opportunities provide worthwhile information on a skill and lends a connection to the College.
