Campus Beautification

Is this photo from the 70's of campus beautification and tree-planting? Maybe ground-breaking? Just remember, you, too, can help beautify the campus! Feel free to pull an offending weed as you go by a flower bed. Have some perennials you need to find a home for? Check in with Lance Conyers or Jerry Gentry for a possible new home on campus...

President's Perspective
Dr. Kris Williams

Staff Meeting: At yesterday's staff meeting, Karen Guess, staff rep, shared information from the HCC Board Meeting and that Paul Kasenow would remain Interim CAO for six more months. It was noted faculty and staff will start reporting vacation leave electronically beginning August 1. The group then discussed the PPE process including the quality of service, and agreed upon goals and expectations that would be met by staff and supervisors. The Harvard Business Review offers a "Management Tip of the Day" -- a daily email that provides strategies and techniques that can be very helpful. Please use this link to subscribe.

CPE/Dev Ed:
The Council on Postsecondary Education received a grant to further develop the co-requisite model for developmental education. More information will be coming soon regarding next steps for colleges.

MSU Graduation: Congratulations to MSU graduates from our Henderson Regional Campus. Many of these graduates are HCC grads, too. It was a lovely ceremony punctuated by thunderstorms last Wednesday night. I was proud to learn that two social work students, both HCC grads, Mindy Kennada (4th from left) and Lisa Sutton (2nd from left), were the top MSU social work students of the year!

4-Day Work Week:
Is the four-day week working for you? A reminder that every staff member needs to work all of their 37.5 hours in the week or take vacation against those hours not worked. Please discuss this with your supervisor to ensure good coverage for community access.

Wellness:
Just a reminder that a longer day on Monday-Thursdays may make you sleepy at work. Taking a few minutes in the Fitness Center or on a walk around campus can help chase the blues away!

Annual Bloodborne Pathogen Training

The following information is about the AHA OSHA requirement for the Allied Health Division
and the
M & O department. Anyone interested can enroll in this elearning community. The information would be valuable in the event you need to report an injury on campus or seek help when on campus.

Henderson Community College is required by OSHA to present an American Heart Association annual bloodborne pathogen training to ensure that employees who are at risk for potential exposure to a bloodborne pathogen are fully informed of the work place practice controls, engineering controls, personal protective equipment and standard precautions on this campus. These are in accordance with the mandate from the OSHA Exposure Standard. In addition, the Standard by OSHA requires that HCC has procedures in place in the event of an exposure and maintaining an exposure control plan. This training will take place every spring and in the event of a newly hired employee.

The elearning community of Bloodborne Pathogens is open and if you enrolled last year, you do not have to re-enroll.  Your names are already in the community. Just go in and click on the quizzes tab and next click on the pre-quiz tab and complete the pre-quiz. Next, go in and look at the power point that is located in the content area and open the link in this power point to view the hand washing video. Then secondly, go to the collaborate tab and click on it and go in and click on entering the room labeled "bloodborne pathogen" and view the collaborate video presentation. Next go back to the quizzes tab and click on the post quiz and complete this quiz. When you submit your answers to this quiz, you can click on "ok" and view your results and read the rationales for the answers. Last, I would ask that you complete an evaluation that is located in the quiz tab area so that I can assess if this way of training is effective and if there are areas that need improving. The evaluations are anonymous.

If you have any questions please amail marlena.buchanan@kctcs.edu or phone 19735. This training must be completed by midnight of June 30.
