HCC and Kyndle Celebrate New Building
Welding Technology Center to help meet workforce needs

Kyndle Vice President for Economic Development Donna Crooks and the Kyndle crew; Senator Dorsey Ridley; Representative Suzanne Miles; representatives from partner industries such as Audubon Metals, Gibbs, and PTTG; HCC Board of Directors Chair Cass Wilson, College Foundation Board members and many others involved in the development of the new Welding Technology Center--along with HCC students, faculty and staff--celebrated its official opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on February 8th. Classes are underway in the new building--in fact, two classes can be held at one time in the 20-bay facility. Students may enroll in certificate programs, classes are incorporated into degree programs such as Industrial Maintenance Technology, and industries can take advantage of the Center to have HCC provide training for their employees. New AMTEC Certifications Available

HCC is now offering AMTEC national certification and diagnostic assessments through HCC Workforce Solutions. The AMTEC Certification in General Maintenance-Mechatronics recognizes individuals who demonstrate mastery of the core competencies in multi-skilled maintenance. The certification test is based on AMTEC's industry-certified, nationally validated skill standards. The assessment is delivered online, contains 186 multiple-choice questions, and provides sub scores in 19 major content areas. The certification test can be used to document competencies of potential and current workers in the multi-skilled content. (This is a single 3-hour test costing $100 per person).

AMTEC also provides 12 standardized diagnostic assessments (multiple choice format) aligned to the industry standards as allocated into 12 major content areas. These assessments were developed and validated by industry experts and can be used to diagnose the training needs of students and incumbent workers. Each assessment takes 1 hour and costs $35 per person.

Contact HCC Workforce Solutions liaisons Victoria Reed or Joe Milazzo to set up assessments for your current employees to identify training needs, or set the assessments up for potential new hires to determine if their skill levels meets your expectations. Home Team Support
HCC continues to support our high school athletics and potential home team students with a Home Team financial contribution. A check is given to the athletic departments of Webster, Union, and Henderson County High Schools; HCC also markets the college at their basketball games. Here Associate Dean for Enrollment Management Cary Conley (right) presents a check to Union County High School athletic director Jeremy Tackett (a former HCC student himself!). We GO RED to Support Women's Heart Health
HCC faculty and staff participated in National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 5th. We take wellness seriously at HCC--focusing on fitness, healthy eating, and stress management. So of course we participated in the Go Red for Women event, which reminds us that heart disease and stroke kill approximately 1 woman every 80 seconds. We wear red to increase women's awareness about their own and others heart health. Photo credit to staff member John Merrill.
