The Buzz: HCC's Weekly Student NewsNovember 20, 2015
Dear HCC Student,

The It's On Us campaign was launched to help raise awareness of sexual assault and intimate partner violence affecting college students nationwide, and to promote the Campus Clarity online awareness and prevention training program. We would like to recognize our Student Government representatives for their hard work and dedication in spreading the important message of the "It's On Us" campaign.

GREAT NEWS, there is still time to complete this required training! The deadline to complete this training program has been extended to December 4, 2015. All students are expected to complete this program by this deadline.

Please join us in our shared effort to take a stand against sexual assault and intimate partner violence.

Join HCC's SGA for Campus Wide Sexual Assault Awareness Events,
Monday and Tuesday, November 23 and 24, 2015 from 11:00am - 1:00pm each day in the Cyber Caf located on the lowest floor of the Sullivan Technology Center. There you will have an opportunity to sign a pledge to stop sexual violence, sign the HCC SGA "It's on Us" banner, and receive a free gift.

Also, students are reminded to update their PS student account (if they haven't already) with a personal email account. If you get stumped updating your student account information, please stop by the Start Center for assistance regarding this important update.

Regards,

Keith G.P. Sayles, MBA
Chief Student Officer

Prescription Drug Abuse
Myth #3: Everyone is doing it.

Truth: When asked, most college students tend to overestimate their peers' non-medical use of prescription drugs. This might actually make it more likely for some students to justify engaging in this behavior; they might think, "Hey, no big deal, everyone is doing it and these drugs are safe anyway."

The reality is that most college students know it's not worth the risk
to misuse or abuse prescription medications. Only one in four people
aged 18 to 20 report using these medications nonmedically at least
once in their lives. But it is a growing issue on campus and the
pressure to take these medications is real. By students' sophomore
year in college, about half of their classmates will have been offered the
opportunity to abuse a prescription drug (NSDUH, 2008; Arria, 2008).
