| Career and Technical Education Month
HCC is proud to celebrate our career and technical education programs. Offering certificates, diplomas and Associate in Applied Science degrees, programs such as Nursing, Business Administration, Industrial Maintenance Technology and more lead to good careers. Courses and degrees also transfer to four-year universities. HCC program faculty and staff partner with the Career and Technical Education programs at our high schools by offering dual credit coursework. Congratulations to our technical education students, faculty and staff.

| Nursing Program Kudos!
HCC Nursing Director Dr. Tammy Owen and our Nursing faculty are excited to announce the NCLEX pass rates for 2014 as given by the Kentucky Board of Nursing:
- Associate Degree Nursing: 93%
- Practical Nursing: 100%
-
The NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) is a certification used in the United States and Canada to license nurses. Our graduates cannot practice nursing in Kentucky without passing the exam. These are outstanding pass rates and we are very excited for the Nursing program graduates, faculty and staff!

Super Super Sunday
On Sunday, February 22, HCC will celebrate the fifth anniversary of the Super Sunday College Fair at five local churches. HCC and KCTCS are celebrating the fifth year of partnering with African-American and Latino churches throughout the state to host college information fairs for prospective students and their families. Since 2011, we have partnered with more than 150 churches and have shared "Yes,You Can Go To College" message with more than 33,000 individuals. This community-based outreach effort is paying off resulting in increased college attendance among African- Americans and Latinos in Kentucky.
In Henderson, thanks to support from the African American Pastors and Layman's Alliance, HCC will have messages during the services at five churches. The host church will be the one where HCC's first Super Sunday occurred, Greater Norris Chapel Baptist Church. HCC will also partner with Madisonville Community College to bring the Super Sunday message to Providence, KY, through Marable Temple Church of God in Christ.

Cynthia Curry is HCC's Hall of Fame recipient for 2015. Cindy graduated from Henderson Community College (HCC) with an associate of applied science degree in human services and a bachelor's degree from Murray State University in human services. She also received a master's degree in human development and leadership from Murray State University. Curry is currently enrolled at the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio pursuing her doctoral degree in theology, which she will complete in December 2015. When she is not hard at work as a student, she can be found on the HCC campus as the Ready to Work/Work and Learn program coordinator. Curry initially thought beginning a journey into higher education was impossible. Being a non-traditional student with children, Curry has gained an enormous amount of encouragement and support from her children, family members and coworkers at HCC. "Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all you're getting get understanding," said Curry. Curry hopes all the people she comes in contact with will apply this principal to their lives as well.

Job Fair with Kyndle
On January 29, Kyndle partnered with HCC to offer a regional job fair. Originally targeted for miners laid off through mine closures, the fair was opened to anyone looking for a job. Over 30 employers offered positions during the event, and many education and social service organizations were there to share opportunities. Miners and others were lined up when the doors opened and over 200 individuals met with various companies over the fair hours. Employers were pleased with the quality of the applicants and those looking for work were excited about their prospects. Companies ranged from manufacturing to health care to financial services. The job fair was a joint effort of Kyndle, HCC, HCC's Workforce Solutions, the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training, the Kentucky Economic Development Cabinet, Union County First, the Murray State Small Business Development Center, the Green River Area Development District and Northwest Kentucky Training Consortium. The event was sponsored by HCC, J and B Barbecue, RC Cola, NKTC and Kyndle.

National Heart Month
February is National Heart Month. Nursing students Sean West and Kelli Ritchison created this bulletin board to bring awareness to National Heart Month and Go Red for Women. The American Heart Association notes that 1 of 3 women will die from heart disease or stroke. The CDC notes that heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women.
HCC supports heart heath and overall wellness for its students, faculty and staff. Several employees got together on Wear Red Day to show their support. Photo taken in the STC by John Merrill.
