Please Help Manage our Fleet

The HCC fleet of 3 cars and 1 van (along with the college truck) are being more closely maintained. This includes taking them out of service for regular cleaning and taking care of maintenance issues.

Recently the vehicles were cleaned and vacuumed. When Lori McGuire checked them the following day there was already trash left in the door handles and on the seats. Please remember it is your responsibility to:

  • Remove all trash and leave it in the trash container conveniently located directly next to the cars.
  • Fill up the gas tank if it is at less than 3/4 of a tank.
  • Bring all gas receipts in to the Business Office along with the car keys.
  • Notify the help desk of any spills or other maintenance issues (remember, oil changes are at longer time intervals than noted by the maintenance required lights.

Your help maintaining the vehicles is greatly appreciated!

NO flip flops or house shoes, please.   Donation boxes are located on the lower floor of the A/T Building in front of the Dental Clinic/Karen Guess' office.

Campaign Strategies: Just a reminder in this political time! There should be no campaigning for any candidate on campus. There may be general voter registration but nothing else, including participation from outside organizations. Here is the policy we follow, KCTCS Policy 3.4 - Political Activity:

KCTCS is a non-partisan organization focused on serving the educational and training needs of Kentucky citizens and businesses without regard to political affiliation. To preserve our nonpartisan status, employees must:

  • Limit display of political posters, flyers balloons and other campaign materials related to current or future elections to your immediate, personal work space.
  • Carefully avoid requiring students or subordinate employees to participate in partisan campaign activity or appearing to make such participation necessary to remain in good standing at work or in a course.
  • Not solicit campaign contributions or political support on KCTCS property.

Teambuilding on Friday: I am sorry I was in Versailles last Friday and so missed a great afternoon of teambuilding. Over 40 faculty and staff participated in a variety of exercises from NERD WARS to skill competitions! Many thanks to Kara Becker, Mai Jones, Lindsey Greer and Malinda Hudson for making the event happen. The next Fun on Friday Teambuilding event will be in November. Photos below by Kim Conley.

Constitution Day: Today! Check out your voting rights, 12:30 p.m. in Joe's Place, in celebration of our nation's constitution. Many thanks to Lorie Maltby and the History Club for the event.

BoR Meeting: a reminder that the KCTCS Board of Regents will be on campus all day tomorrow and Friday morning. Please wear your name badges and pick up any trash you spot! It is appreciated.

eLearning Ad Hoc: I have been appointed to the Ad Hoc Team for Distance Learning/eLearning Strategic Planning. This team is reviewing a system-wide strategy for distance learning that would incorporate both Learn by Term and Learn on Demand. As recommendations are developed I will share them with you for your input into the process.

September is National Preparedness Month

Henderson Emergency Management Agency

Emergency Mgmt LogoBe ready! You can join the effort by following four steps:

  1. Build a Kit
  2. Make a Plan
  3. Stay Informed
  4. Get Involved

Get an Emergency Kit - An emergency kit includes the basics for survival: fresh water, food, clean air and warmth. You should have enough supplies to maintain your family's comfort for at least three days or throughout an extended power outage.

Make an Emergency Plan - Make plans with your family and friends in case you're not together during an emergency. Discuss how you'll contact each other, where you'll meet and what you'll do in different situations. Ask about planning at your workplace and your child's school or daycare center.

Be Informed - Being prepared means staying informed. Check all types of media - Web sites, newspapers, radio, TV, mobile and land phones - for global, national and local information. During an emergency, your local Emergency Management or Emergency Services office will give you information on such things as open shelters and evacuation orders.

Get Involved - Look into taking first aid. Get emergency response training and learn how to participate in community exercises, and volunteer to support your community's first responders.

Remember: Being prepared starts at home. Don't fall into the false sense of security that when bad things happen it will always happen to someone else. You and your family are where readiness starts.
