Changes at the HCC Library
Library Director Mike Knecht reports the library staff has worked this summer to increase student study space on the library's first floor by moving the periodical shelving to areas housing the audio-visual and children's literature collections.
The shelving became available as many hard copy periodicals were replaced with electronic counterparts. Students now have an additional 430 square feet of study space that features additional tables, chairs, and new prints on the walls. Old shelves from the AV and children's literature areas were taken by the library staff to the recycling center. With wireless access available in the newly available space, the library staff anticipates quick student recognition and steady use.
Faculty member Scott Taylor noted, "...They rearranged the first floor and created a much cleaner, more open area that really fosters a more inviting and comfortable atmosphere.
