Campus Kudos

Kudos: to HCC student and Student Government President Ebenezer Yankey for being selected as one of two student representatives to the KCTCS Board of Regents! This is the second Regent from HCC in three years (the first was Jan Hite). Photo, right, from KCTCS.

Kudos II: Each year HCC hosts a table at the Union County School's Opening Ceremony. This year the table promoted the NAA class now offered at the Herron Center. Shannon Clements, Herron Center Academic Coordinator (and "Friend") were awarded 2nd Place Presentation of Organization/Business. Photo, left, provided by Shannon Clements.

Kudos III: Susanne Wilson and Stacey Howell (Office for Advancement) just received notification that HCC received the Council for Advancement And Support of Education (CASE) award for Educational Fundraising, an honor given to superior fundraising programs at educational institutions across the country. HCC was awarded an Overall Improvement Award based on the judges' analysis of three years of fundraising data. HCC is posted as an award winner on the CASE website.

Changes at the HCC Library
Library Director Mike Knecht reports the library staff has worked this summer to increase student study space on the library's first floor by moving the periodical shelving to areas housing the audio-visual and children's literature collections.

The shelving became available as many hard copy periodicals were replaced with electronic counterparts. Students now have an additional 430 square feet of study space that features additional tables, chairs, and new prints on the walls. Old shelves from the AV and children's literature areas were taken by the library staff to the recycling center. With wireless access available in the newly available space, the library staff anticipates quick student recognition and steady use.

Faculty member Scott Taylor noted, "...They rearranged the first floor and created a much cleaner, more open area that really fosters a more inviting and comfortable atmosphere.
