Dear (Contact First Name),

It is now "after tax season."  I work at a local CPA Firm where we have just completed filing over 100 federal income tax returns and over 150 return extensions to be finalized in the next few months.  Isn't it interesting how our lives are "driven" by deadlines?

Have you read the book Good to Great (Author - Jim Collins) lately?  The book compares a few good companies to a few really great companies.  Often I refer back to the Sweet Spot described in Collins' book.  The research compiled in the book indicates that the really great companies all had several things in common.  Wouldn't it be great for each of us to claim living a really great life?

One conclusion drawn in the book is that the great companies all focus on their Sweet Spot - the intersection of what they do really well, what they have a passion for, and integrated with those who will pay for what they do well and like to do.  I use this to re-center in my own personal greatness, from time to time.

Ask yourself...what is it that (1) I do really really well and that (2) I enjoy doing?  Then answer the third leg of this question - what do I need/want to get out of what I do really well and enjoy the most?  The intersection of these three things is the sweet spot for maximum satisfaction!  If your goal is making money, then clarify who will pay for what you do really well and enjoy doing. If your goal is self-satisfaction or personal happiness, then clarify how you will be "paid" or rewarded for what you do really well and enjoy doing.  Would this be public or private recognition, feeding of personal ego, others-centered, or what?

Tax time is over and now is a good time to re-center on something other than money.  More than half of the year is left to make it a memorable year!  Let's go to it...

...But the words "in his image" might mean something other than arms, legs and a nose. We have the capacity, of all the creatures known to us, to distinguish between good and evil. We have the capacity to think. And we have the capacity to exercise free will. We can do something or believe something purely because we decided that it is the right thing to do, even if it is contrary to our animal instincts...Most Christians believe that these attributes are the image of God. However, we must always remember that a likeness is not identical to the original. We are made in God's image, but we are not God; if we look in a mirror, we see an image of our ourselves, but it is not...But we are special. Of all the gazillion things in the universe, only one of them (that we know of) was made in the image and likeness of God, and that is us. But there's a catch: all the other people in the world, including the burglar stealing our money and the politician we cannot stand, are also made in God's image. They are his beloved children and the likeness of God, and it is for that reason Christ told us that we may not judge one another.
