HEADER: Mt. Shasta Integrative Medicine

Dear Friends and Colleagues,

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Genes raise the gun and Environmental Factors pull the trigger: Let us have a new October with the focus on "Breast Cancer Prevention".

America does not lack breast cancer awareness.  Numerous breast cancer groups exist in every city.  Sad but true, besides a little on early detection, very few are aware of "breast cancer prevention".

My passion is to raise awareness about what is really happening here in our environment -our inner environment and environment around us, as breast cancer continues to rise and women continue to suffer from the disease and some; consequences after treatment. Breast cancer is the leading cause of death related to cancer in women between ages 35 and 55. Intriguingly enough, women in this age group are also losing the natural rhythmic peaks and valleys between estrogen and progesterone; many have silent hypothyroid issues and many also other delicate imbalances in their emotional, physical and spiritual bodies.

Because hormones often act wildly different from one woman to another whether from different biological make ups, different history of environmental toxic load of chemicals and heavy metals, different reproductive histories and mineral deficiencies, the approaches to lower the risk of this deadly disease could not be too simplified.

After seeing various women coming down with this seeming one disease with different risks, my mission is to empower as many women as possible to awaken the healing and clearing power from within.  If nothing is done to prevent our genetic challenge to handle toxins and stress, other negative issues around our health will happen also. It's time to educate people to really enhance optimal living to lower the risk of not only breast cancer but all metabolic environmental toxic diseases, such as Parkinson's, MS and other auto-immune diseases

Linda. S Birnbaum from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences & National Toxicology program says, "In the same way as medicines are delivered to produce effects in the endocrine system, environmental chemicals can be similarly delivered to produce unwanted endocrine effects, resulting in a staggering increase in several diseases. These effects on endocrine and other physiological systems can have significant population-level impacts and thus require public health approaches to disease control."

"Over the past 40 years we have seen a 57% increase in prostate cancer, 40% increase in breast cancer, 85% increase in hypospadias (penile defects), and a 50% reduction in sperm count. In addition, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) has increased by 30%, autism spectrum disorders have doubled in the past 10 years, obesity has doubled in the past 30 years and the number of US adults with diabetes has more than tripled since 1980. Clearly we must look to the environment as the primary cause of such increases because the human genome has not changed over the same time-period. Endocrine disruptors are likely to be a key factor in the surge of many diseases and disorders."
My job is to look at the environmental factors and then take action to lower breast cancer risk. The following is my personal action plan based on my personal history of pre-teen DDT exposure, growing up in China with air pollution, taking birth control pills for many years and chronic stress:

    1.  Make sure my thyroid is working optimally and my average basal body temperature is over 97.6 measured every morning upon waking before day 14 of my period.
    2.  Buy a bottle of Betadine, (iodine) put a drop on your wrist and see if it disappears within 12 hours. If it goes away really fast, send me an email to [email protected]- you might suffer from a silent epidemic of iodine deficiency.  The gold standard test is the 24 hour urine iodine challenge test.
  1. Take a good multi-vitamin with plenty (2000-8000 units a day) Vitamin D3 and chelated minerals. (Zinc, selenium, magnesium and iodine). If you're not sure about your minerals and toxic metals - test your tissue levels, not blood levels. (look into getting some type of intracellular or tissue levels of minerals and heavy metals tested- such as Oligoscan- a new tool for non invasive and affordable instant discovery of your inner self J
  2. DETOXIFY yourself every day.  Book for OctI highly recommend Immune, my product of the month for this purpose- cellular detox, immune balance -the key to help the body in this toxic environment.
  3. Make sure your liver, gall bladder and digestive tract are flowing every day. I recommend the "Cleanse, Immune and Eaze" for optimal daily pooping.
  4. Balance your hormones. Hormones can be extremely protective of a woman's breasts. When they are working in syncin arhythmical manner, I believe they provide the BEST strategy for keeping your breasts healthy and young, therefore lowering your risk of breast cancer
  5.  "Eat food, not too much, mostly plants" as Michael Pollen states in his book "In Defense of Food"
  6. Get outside in nature and MOVE!  Do something outside every day, anything!
  7. Practice gratitude, follow your heart and live an authentic life!

Testimonial of the Month

I just love being 74 years of age and feeling and looking years of age and feeling and looking like I'm 54 years of age. I attribute this to all of the wonderful supplements, minerals and especially the Wiley Protocol hormones that Dr. Lu has put me on that makes the biggest difference in my life. I can't imagine having the energy to hike and cross-country ski without taking these life enhancing protocols. It's wonderful and I have a man in my life.

I'm so grateful to Dr. Lu's astuteness for having a much broader knowledge about nutrition and supplements than any other doctor in this area.
