askON TEXT pilot project update

 askON TEXT launched September 9th 2013 as an additional channel for visitors of Colleges and Public libraries to send in those quick questions. The askON TEXT service has been receiving an increasing number of new visitors every day.
  
After five weeks, askON TEXT has received a total of 157 texts. While our College library visitors quickly embraced the service, texting an average of 25 questions a week, Public library users are still warming up to the service, sending an average of 7 questions a week.
 
In order to improve statistics in the College and especially the Public queue, the Text Task Force has identified the emphasis of marketing materials and promotion as a major action item for askON and pilot partners. In order to assist with this task, Jan and Nonna were fortunate enough to receive additional support by way of an iSchool practicum student -- Laura DeVouge. Laura is already hard at work on a marketing plan and will be working with our TEXT participants to assist in marketing efforts. Welcome Laura!

* askON OLA session! askON has a 2014 Super Conference session about the askON TEXT pilot. "Keep Calm and Text askON (The Pilot)" will be session #240 and presented by Georgian College's Jen Booth and Guelph Public Library's Meg Forestell.
