Introducing Collect - College Libraries Central
We've had several requests for more information about the Colleges Union Catalogue Digital Repository pilot project, recently named Collect - College Libraries Central, following a Name That Repository survey that was distributed in late August. Recent questions have focused specifically on how it is envisioned to work when it's released as a pilot, its relationship to the Colleges Union Catalogue, and its recent progress. Here's an update on all three fronts.

eBook Project Update
The HLLR eBook Consortium Project has recently completed phase 2 of the Implementation Analysis Phase (IAP). An important milestone has been met with the release of a Request for Information (RFI) to vendors and aggregators. Responses to the RFI are expected to provide valuable insight and options for how a college eBook consortium could be structured and with which partners. Video Streaming: It's Everywhere
The opportunities for Ontario college libraries to deliver services in support of teaching and learning continue to be diverse and numerous. At OCLS we learn about many of them through our ongoing contact with you and through involvement in HLLR research projects, committee work and participation in various working/interest groups. Last year one of the refrains we heard most frequently was copyright and licensing. This year, it's shaping up to be video. The HLLR Video Research Panel tabled its final consultant's report in June. It is an excellent and comprehensive report that identifies the important trends in the use and delivery of educational video content. The report's recommendations, which can be found on the OCLS website at http://ocls.ca/content/video-streaming-study, are supported by HLLR, and underscore the need for a longer term vision for video streaming services in the colleges and recommend a series of interim steps to achieve the vision including the establishing of an HLLR Digital Media Services Committee (chaired by Georgian's Jennifer Varcoe) to build on the initiatives currently in place in the colleges. ...
