OCLS' New Home
talking at the deskWe are  now well settled into our new location. All systems are connected and boxes unpacked. We are just managing small adjustments such as fine tuning the heating/ac, distributing new door keys and dealing with the odd drain problem. Other than the days of the actual move our goal was that most of you would not have noticed any disruption in service. And we hope we achieved our goal. Enjoy these photos of our new office and know that our doors are always open if you want to come for a visit.
How to Get a Handle on RDA
Check out the NEW 'Cataloguer's Forum' open to everyone who wants to get acquainted with what is going on in regards to cataloguing in your community of Ontario colleges. Keep updated on RDA training opportunities being offered, material for self-study, vendor readiness, as well as, find a one stop shop for cataloguing resources. To learn how the Cataloguer's Forum can best serve you NOW for RDA Implementation read on.
License Agreements & Permitted Uses
In March, OCLS announced the launch of the License Agreements & Permitted Uses section of the eResources Portal. Previously, eResources Portal users had access to PDF copies of the license agreements signed by OCLS on behalf of the colleges. With the launch of this new section, in addition to the agreements, OCLS now provides-for information purposes only- summary terms of use information drawn from license agreements in a simple to use table. The terms of use include such information as who is permitted to use the resource, whether content can be posted to a learning management system, whether content can be shared via inter-library loan, and much more.

It should be noted that the Permitted Uses section of the portal is only for use by library staff. Access to the Permitted Uses pages should not be shared with college staff outside of the library or with faculty, instructors, or students.

As recommended by the college library directors, OCLS has set up one username and password for each college library. That access information will be sent out to the administrator at each college library this week. This will allow non-eResources staff to have access to the License Agreements & Permitted Uses information on the portal. If you have any questions, please contact Coralee Leroux, eResources & Services Coordinator ([email protected]).

Staff Profile: Thomas Guignard  Thomas Guignard profile

Thomas Guignard is the Project Manager for the Colleges eBook Consortium Project. Before moving to Canada and joining OCLS, he was Head of Collection Development at the library of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he gained experience with eBooks, team management, library space design, merging libraries, moving 12km of shelves, and a million other things. Thomas has a background in engineering and spent some time in the lab doing research on acoustics, developing a fascination for academic "infrastructure" that ultimately led him to the world of libraries. He is currently working towards a Master of Economics in the Management of Library and Information Services through the Aberystwyth University distance learning program.

In his free time, Thomas is also a dad, a photographer and a maker, building things out of love, light and cardboard. He lives in West Toronto with his wife and daughter.

eBook Project Update
The eBook Consortium Project is well into phase 2 of the Implementation Analysis Phase (IAP). The project aims to identify opportunities for increased capacity and savings, gather information about the current eBook procurement process in the colleges, and develop a proposal and a Business Case for a working consortium. Read on to learn more about the project and the people involved.
