We Cannot Live Without Our Lives: A conversation on Anti-blackness, Trans Resistance and Prison Abolition

Join us for critical dialogue and a historic panel that will bring together formally incarcerated Black trans women and organizers to talk about the specific ways trans women of color are impacted by imprisonment and to highlight strategies of growing prison abolition.

Panelist include CeCe McDonald, Reina Gossett, Janetta Johnson, moderated by Eric A. Stanley, UC President's Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Communication and Critical Gender Studies. Check back every week to learn more about the panelists.

Reina Gossett lives in Fort Greene, Brooklyn and believes creativity & imagination are vital in movements for self-determination. She is a trans activist & artist, working as membership director at the Sylvia Rivera Law Project and blogging at reinagossett.com. Reina's work has been featured in BCRW's The Scholar & Feminist Online, as well as Captive Genders: Trans Embodiment & The Prison Industrial Complex. She is an activist fellow at BCRW.

Breaking the Binary: Rethinking Gender

A crash course in gender for those who want to explore how it's organized and functions in our society. Topics include a history and explanation of gender and biological sex binaries, transgender identities, gender v. presentenation v. performance, and a Q&A. This is "101" material aimed at cisgender allies and trans-questioning folks, but all are welcome!

OKAERI, meaning "Welcome Home" in Japanese, is a one-day gathering of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning individuals, family and allies who seek to find support and resources, information and motivation, and 
who wish to connect with others to build greater inclusion in the Nikkei community. It will be a day of connecting, education and storytelling in workshops and plenary sessions. You will leave the gathering inspired and motivated!

T*Camp: An InterCampus Retreat for Trans/Genderqueer & Gender Questioning Students

January 9-11, 2015


T*Camp is an intercampus retreat to explore gender identity and expression and to engage in dialogue with our peers. This event is specifically for students who are transgender, genderqueer, or gender questioning (TGQQ). Retreat facilitators include transgender and genderqueer community members, as well as campus LGBT resource professionals.

The Partners at Learning Program offers 6-unit upper division courses in which UCSD students work with underserved P-12 students and schools. Available PAL Courses: EDS 130/139: Intro to Academic Mentoring, Elementary; EDS 131/139: Assisting in Preschool EDS 136/139: Intro to Academic Tutoring, Secondary; and EDS 138/139: Intro to Academic Tutoring at Charter Schools.

The Asterisk Trans* Conference: Submit a Workshop

 

The Asterisk Trans* Conference is seeking program proposals that focus on building trans* community, the health and well-being of trans* people, and education and resources for trans* youth advocates. All accepted workshops will be presented over 60 minutes on Saturday, February 28, 2015.
