Out & Proud Week: Call for Programs

Out and Proud Week presents the largest opportunity for community visibility on the UC San Diego campus. It is a week-long opportunity, to be in community, learn about the community, and a time to reflect on the struggles and achievements of LGBTQIA-identified students, staff, and faculty and our allies. It is also a time for public awareness and discussion of current LGBT issues on our campus, as well as local, state and national levels. The LGBT Resource Center is doing a call out for programs, events, educational opportunities, and gatherings that represent the mission of Out and Proud Week. SCREAMING QUEENS: The Riot at Compton's Cafeteria

Join us over lunch to learn more about early Transgender Activism. We will be showing Screaming Queens which depicts transgender women and drag queen's resistance to police harassment at Compton's Cafeteria in San Francisco's Tenderloin in 1966, three years before the famous riot at Stonewall Inn bar in NYC.

Transgender Day of Empowerment

Join The LGBT Community Center in Hillcrest for an evening of celebration, education, and entertainment at the 11th Annual Transgender Day of Empowerment. The night's festivities will include inspiring speakers, artwork, musical performances, community awards, and light refreshments. This event is FREE to ALL and ALL are welcome.

The New Black: Film Screening

"The New Black" documents the story of African-Americans grappling with the LGBT issue through the lens of the recent marriage equality movements and the fight over civil rights. Activists, families and clergy examines the issue in the black community's institutional pillar-the black church.

Campus Climate Listening Sessions
The Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion is holding a series of Listening Sessions for students at the Campus Community Centers to identify and respond to important student issues in the Climate Survey. At these sessions the Climate Survey results relating to students will be discussed and we invite your ideas and recommendations on areas that require action. We invite you to attend one of the following sessions. Light refreshments will be served.

UCSD is pleased to announce an inaugural graduate student conference in feminist and queer of color critique, which will take place May 2-3, 2014. The conference seeks to open dialogue about the intersections of women of color feminism and queer of color critique. Graduate students from UCSD and elsewhere are invited to participate in our two day conference, with a keynote and a closing musical performance. We are honored to have Professor Sharon Holland from Duke University as our keynote speaker.
