Gender-Neutral Bathrooms Petition
University of California, San Diego
The UC Academic Student Workers Union has included a link to an online petition that they are circulating in support of increased access to gender-neutral bathrooms across all UC campuses. This is one of their proposals at the bargaining table this summer, and are trying to counter management's argument that this is not a work-related issue. They feel that it is, and they ask members to sign on to support this proposal that is currently being debated between the union and management.

AIDS Walk San Diego
September 29 | 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
Balboa Park
Dear community~
Every year UC San Diego participates in San Diego's AIDS Walk with the UCSD Communities team, but this year is different. 10 years ago, our own Trent Lawley passed away from AIDS. This year we are walking specifically in his memory, on the 10th anniversary of his passing, and I hope you will walk with our team.
Trent was a strong supporter of the UC San Diego LGBT community and the LGBT Resource Center from the day it opened back when we were a simple office in the Financial Aid building back in 1999. He was a committed member of the LGBT Speaker's Bureau, and volunteered at the Resource Center before we transitioned to regular evening staff. Trent kept us open every Wednesday afternoon. The Resource Center benefited not only from his time, but from numerous donations of food throughout the year, and some fun pieces of decor and furniture. Trent was honored as the first Volunteer of the Year at our Rainbow Graduation in 2002. He was humble in receiving the recognition, and we had to beg him to come forward. But he did. He always stepped forward when needed. Trent passed away from AIDS on September 8th, 2003. I was at his memorial service at The Center in Hillcrest, with so many of his friends and family. Soon after, we named our undergraduate intern who coordinates volunteers after him: the Trent Lawley Volunteer Intern. I wish I would have known him longer - if AIDS hadn't cut his life short. And this year, in 2013, we are walking in memory of 10 years since his passing and the ongoing fight to end HIV/AIDS. I hope you will walk with us.
This year AIDS Walk is the single largest one-day HIV/AIDS fundraiser in San Diego. The annual event consists of a 5K AIDS Walk and a USA Track & Field certified 10K AIDS Run (which starts at 7:30am). Funds raised provide essential services - food, shelter, healthcare, counseling, etc. - to women, men and children fighting HIV/AIDS throughout San Diego County. AIDS Walk also serves as an important vehicle for HIV/AIDS education and prevention.
If you want to join us, visit the AIDS Walk & Run website at http://aidswalksd.org and click the "Register" tab at the top of the page, select "Join an Existing Team" then prompted, indicate your desire to "Join a Team" and then enter our team name - UCSD Communities -- and hit "Search for a Team." Click the Join button to the right of our name. It's that easy!
I am our AIDS Walk San Diego team leader and you can contact me with any questions about AIDS Walk, if you need to register or if you have any thoughts or ideas about what we should do this year for our participation in AIDS Walk.
Register and walk with us in memory of Trent. I hope I'll see you at the 24th annual AIDS Walk & Run San Diego.

San Diego's Clean Syringe Exchange Program (CSEP)
Volunteers Needed! Help prevent the spread of HIV.
Monday - Friday | 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Thursday | 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
HIV Prevention Center
We are currently looking for new volunteers to help us with this exciting public health intervention designed to curb the spread of HIV and Hepatitis C. We are in need of motivated people from a variety of academic backgrounds to help our program excel, and that's why I am contacting you! The issues related to injection drug use are complex and require diverse interdisciplinary perspectives to be solved. Make a difference in the local San Diego community as a volunteer for the county's only Clean Syringe Exchange Program, so that the likelihood of HIV and HCV being passed on to others can be reduced.
