March with LGBT Resource Center in the SD Pride Parade

July 13 | 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Number 47 in Zone G near Normal Street and Harvey Milk Street in Hillcrest

March with UCSD in the LGBT Pride Parade. We will be meeting around Normal Street and Harvey Milk Street in Hillcrest and will be marching to Balboa Park. We will be marching with the award winning Pep Band who's lively and dynamic music give our contingent such good energy. The parade is 1.5 miles long, and will be done no later than 2pm. Please use sunscreen, drink lots of water and wear comfortable shoes! The event is really fun and a great way to build community. We look forward to seeing you.

If you need a ride to pride or are able to provide one, please fill out the following form to join our carpool list! http://tinyurl.com/pridecarpools2013.  This form does not guarantee a ride to pride as we still need drivers! Sign-ups will close at 12pm on Friday, July 12th.

Note, parking is absolutely crazy, and we recommend using the shuttle from the Old Navy Hospital. The easiest way to get there from UCSD is to take the 163 south to Washington Street East. At the top of the off ramp turn right. At Washington, turn right, then continue down toward Brian's American Eatery. Normal Street is the second light after Brian's. Don't plan on parking there. You are advised to park in the Old Navy Hospital Parking Lot on Park Boulevard at President's way (east of Balboa Park). Shuttles will be running and will drop you off at the line-up area. These shuttles will be running from near the end of the parade route, as well, to take you back to your car.

"Pride is about who you are: a devoted and loving parent, a patriotic service member, a bike-riding lesbian, and drag queen, a student, a teacher, and most of all a human with the same simple desire to be happy, to love and be loved."

San Diego's Champion of Pride is UC San Diego's Alumni

A round of Applause for Araceli "Cheli" Mohamed!

July 13 | 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Pride Parade

This year's San Diego Champion of Pride is UC San Diego's Alumni Araceli "Cheli" Mohamed. She was given this great honor based on her 20 year self-less and exceptional contribution to the LGBT Community. Araceli has been involved with the Pride Extravaganza for a plethora of years. She began volunteering at pride in the 90s while she helped pick up trash, answered numerous questions at the information booth, and helped check-in volunteers. She continued her volunteering because she said that "after that first year of volunteering, I fell in love with Pride. The emotions and feeling of belonging, of being together with other people that were just like you, of working together to make a difference." As a result, all her efforts made such an impact that eventually she was hired in 2009 as Pride's Leadership and Community Resources Director. According to Araceli, this recognition is about the "passion, commitment and devotion that volunteers have for our LGBT community". So instead of seeing Araceli checking-in the volunteers this year, she will be riding in Pride Parade as 2013's Champion of Pride. As a UCSD community, we will be right there with her in the Pride Parade, cheering her on for all her extraordinary gifts that she has given to the LGBT community. Last remarks from Araceli herself, pride is important because "it is turning volunteers into the true catalysts for change, empowering our community volunteers to go out and do incredible things" and that is truly what she has accomplished in her wondrous 20 years as a volunteer.  Thank you Araceli and Congrats!
