Introducing
Karina Jaramillo
Preuss Intern
Hey! My name is Karina Jaramillo. I am a senior at The Preuss School UCSD. I am currently on the pursuit of making my final college decision! Something I love doing is reading; I love to read! I enjoy sports, mostly soccer, and if running counts as a sport, then running as well. I am a bit shy at first but so far I've met quite great people here at the center that have helped me come out of my shell and become more comfortable with talking to new people. I am a strong advocate of anything dealing with equality and outreaching to different diverse groups which is why I look forward to interning here at the LGBT Resource center. I look forward to meeting you lovelies!

LGBT RC Intern Alumni Reflections: The Ins and Outs
Johnnie Rivas, Intern Class 2005-2006
Something that I choose to reflect on is the various times I gave tours of the Resource Center. These are significant to me because giving a tour usually meant that a person was new to the Resource Center and the tour would be their first interaction with the space and its various assets. It is reminiscent of my first time in the space and experiencing the warm welcome via the tour and the genuine enthusiasm of the intern. After my tour, I just remember having the thought "I want to be here." For me, tours were one way to share this and other elated experiences with individuals and signified the beginnings of establishing connections to the community.

UCSD Library New LGBT Resource
Rethinking the Gay and Lesbian Movement - Marc Stein
This engaging book examines the history of the gay and lesbian movement in the United States, focusing on the years 1950-1990. Noting that many college textbooks on U.S. history offer only passing reference to the LGBT past, Stein seeks to fill that gap and, in the process, synthesize what we know of the gay and lesbian movement's successes and failures. The book offers a close look at homophile activism of the 1950s and 1960s, moves on to the rise of gay liberation and radical lesbian feminism of the 1970s, and then to the issue-driven (e.g. AIDS, legal reforms, media representation) activism of the 1980s. An introductory chapter looks at the early history (1500-1940) of same sex love in America, while a concluding chapter gives a brief overview of the social and political landscape since 1990. A "suggestions for further reading" bibliography offers an excellent topical breakdown of important works in the field. This book is available online at a http://goo.gl/W5mXE .
