UCOP Campus Climate Survey, Your Voice Counts!

If you think your voice doesn't count, think again. UC San Diego students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to share their opinions by participating in the University of California Campus Climate Study Survey. The system wide effort-believed to be the largest survey of its kind ever conducted-asks more than 430,000 individuals about their experiences with diversity and inclusion at work and on campus.

Check your inbox!  As of January 22 you should have received a personalized link in an e-mail to take the survey.

The data will be used to assess the learning, living and working environment- the campus climate- for people who go to school or work at UC. The more people who participate, the better the data will be.  With your help, we can further our goal of creating a welcoming environment that is safe, productive and nurtures all parts of our diverse community.

Some incentives include (1) $10,000 undergraduate scholarship, iPads, (2) $5,000 faculty research grants, and more!

LGBT RC Intern Alumni Reflections: The Ins and Outs

Haley Ausserer, Intern Class 2001-2002

I volunteered and subsequently interned at the LGBTRC from 2001-2002. I was there when Shaun was hired, and what an exciting time that was! I worked with members of QPOC to coordinate two Generation Q youth conferences, visiting high schools all over the San Diego area to recruit attendees. With my passion for reading and LGBT history, I also made it a personal priority to grow our library. My experiences with the wonderful people I met through the LGBTRC are my favorite memories from the time I spent at UCSD. I learned so much about community organizing, effective communication, and being a responsible and respectful white ally from the amazing people with whom I had the great fortune to collaborate.

Queer Masculinities: A Critical Reader in Education

Queer Masculinities: A Critical Reader in Education is a new book that is a substantial addition to the discussion of queer masculinities, of the interplay between queer masculinities and education, and to the political gender discourse as a whole.  Enriching the discourse of masculinity politics, the cross-section of scholarly interrogations of the complexities and contradictions of queer masculinities in education demonstrates that any serious study of masculinity-hegemonic or otherwise-must consider the theoretical and political contributions that the concept of queer masculinity makes to a more comprehensive and nuanced understanding of masculinity itself.
