"The idea of imagined community is useful because it leads us away from essentialist notions of Third World feminist struggles, suggesting political rather than biological or cultural bases for alliances. It is not color or sex that constructs the ground for these struggles. Rather, it is the way we think about race, class, and gender--the political links we choose to make among and between struggles."

Staff & Faculty Highlight

Ways for Staff and Faculty to get involved with Q-Camp

The UC San Diego LGBT Resource Center would like to invite any and all UCSD staff to Q-Camp, an orientation to the UC San Diego LGBT community for incoming and current students, which will be on September 26, 9:00a.m. - 1:30p.m. at the LGBT Resource Center.

The Q-Camp experience is one that helps connect new and returning students to UCSD, to the LGBT community, and to the LGBT Resource Center, and the presence of university staff is an indispensable part of building those relationships. There are many ways that you can be involved:

1. You can come to the community building section of Q Camp and get to know the other folks attending by RSVP'ing here

2. You can also table for your department or with an organization at our Q Fair by RSVP'ing here

3. You can also bring a dish to the Q Camp Potluck.

And of course, you can come for all of Q Camp and utilize all of these opportunities to engage and connect with other members of the UCSD community. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the LGBT Resource Center at rainbow@ucsd.edu.

Graduate Student Highlight

Grad Student Track at Q-Camp

LGBT RC

The UC San Diego LGBT Resource Center would like to invite any and all graduate students to Q-Camp, an orientation to the UC San Diego LGBT community for incoming and current students. This year's Q Camp will be September 26, 9:00a.m. - 1:30p.m. at the LGBT Resource Center.

We offer a Graduate Student specific track within the Q Camp experience, so that other LGBT-identified graduate students and allies are able to meet one another, build community, and create connections across the university. This also offers grads opportunities to connect with faculty and staff in smaller groups, as well as become more familiar with the resources available on campus and in the LGBT Resource Center.

I encourage you to RSVP for Q Camp by submitting the RSVP form. If you have any questions, feel free to contact the LGBT Resource Center at rainbow@ucsd.edu.

Also, please attend the QGrads Welcome Mixer to mingle with other LGBT graduate students on campus. The mixer will be on Friday, September 21 from 4:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. at Home Plate near RIMAC. There will be free food and opportunities to meet new friends.
