Pride Thanks!

Working with everyone for San Diego Pride this year has been a blast. I appreciated collaborating with so many key people who made Pride a success this year with their thoughts, supportive energy, and contributions.

To the Pride Planning Committee--the most consistent people I've worked with for Pride. Thank you for your ideas, critical feedback, and dedication. Thanks, Alexis, Alina, Victor, Vinny, Alex, Anyssa, Peper, Jasmine, and Sarah. Special thanks to Alexis for designing the t-shirts and stickers--your vision helped drive us forward. To Vinny for implementing the t-shirt design on Photoshop--you did a fabulous job!

I would also like to express my appreciation for Shaun, Van, and Conor for your support throughout the year. Thank you for your energy, encouragement, and presence during Pride this year. Special thanks to Conor for driving the UCSD SUV to get people to the parade and back! I really appreciate your sense of commitment. Thank you for making Pride happen for so many dedicated community members. Thanks Laura for being so helpful during the parade and work party. You helped to make both events run smoothly.

Thank you to all the folks that I collaborated with to make our parade contingent so exciting. To Jennifer and the UCSD Mother-Child-Adolescent Program. Thank you for printing the stickers, and to the youth group who gave us exciting ideas for signs. We were very excited to march with you and we hope to continue collaborating in the future. Thank you UCSD Pep Band! Your live music and upbeat energy always keep us excited and dancing. We appreciate you so much.

Thank you, Chet from The Factory for going above and beyond to help us with our t-shirts. I would recommend any student organization or department to order your shirts from The Factory on campus because of your commitment, speed, and care. You really helped to make a difference in our contingent this year.

Thank you to all of the people who attended the Pride and Pizza Work Party, marched with us in the parade, and attended the Alumni Gathering.

To everyone who helped out with Pride this year--we really appreciate your support.

Thanks,

Michelle Strange

Staff and Faculty Highlight

University of California Postdoc Union

The University of California Postdoc Union, UAW Local 5810, represents over 6,000 postdocs throughout the 10 UC campuses, and over 1,200 postdocs here in San Diego. Our Union bargains collectively for better wages, benefits, and working conditions. The Monthly Membership Meetings are a great opportunity for postdoc members to learn about our Union and meet other postdocs. In recent meetings, we have discussed our pay scales, professional development, health care, leaves, and our retirement plan.

Graduate Student Highlight

Your Space

Welcome graduate students to the UC San Diego LGBT Resource Center. Our Center serves all constituents of the UC San Diego community, including and especially our graduate students. Our space is open to all constituents, although we know from our statistics that the majority of the folks who use our space on a daily basis are undergraduate students. However, our second largest category is graduate students, so we encourage you to make the Resource Center your own.

LGBT RCGrad students: this space is yours! Please use the LGBT Resource Center to hold your office hours and small seminar classes. You can fill out a room reservation form here. Our conference room provides a great study space for many graduate student study groups, presentations, and research-based work. The Heritage Room is also a great space to work or take a nap after reading and grading. If you feel too isolated already by the summer's energy, hang out in the Family Room. Between the library, computers with free printing, and cozy couches, you are certain to find community at the LGBT Resource Center.

Same-sex Relationship Development Study

The University of Cincinnati is conducting an online survey to learn about how same-sex relationships develop and how same-sex partners symbolize their commitment to one another. We also will examine how different relationship formation processes are related to relationship stability and emotional well-being. The important information we gather from this survey will be used to inform policy and relationship education programs designed to help same-sex attracted individuals initiate and maintain healthy relationships.

If you are at least 18 years of age, are in a same-sex relationship that has lasted for at least 6 months, and are currently living with your romantic partner, then we would like to invite you to participate in our research study!
