SOME OF THE BEST NEW PRODUCTS OF THE SEASON
RODS - SAGE ROD -
The One rod! Well, i read all the hype and i sell them! But i could never really give you my thoughts on them or a decent review until i managed to give them a work out through out the season.
The One rod is less forgiving than the Z-axis rods they have replaced. I would say unless you understand rod loading and are quite a good fly caster you may struggle with this rod.
In the wrong hands may not help people become better casters as they are quite stiff, but very light.
In the right hands they are magic rods, my clients have been using the 6wgt One all season and having fun with it, i recently added a 4 wgt to the guiding, teaching arsenal and it is now my preferd rod, it is such a pleasure to cast.

FLY LINES
Rio fly lines - The Rio gold fly line has still been the top seller in the shop and seems to please nearly everybody that cast and fish with it.
So itīs a hard one to not recommend.
Itīs slightly over weighted and so on perfect days you have to stop the rod a little higher than normal matched lines to rods, just to get that slightly better gentle presentation.
For me though the pick has to be the newly released from Rio ,the Hi-viz Rio gold 120ft Competion line with a 75ft head, as well as using this for teaching i also use it for fishing.
But a good value hi-viz line would have to be the Quality Echo hi-viz solo line made in Canada (not China!), wow!
REELS- SAGE 4200
This new range of Sage reels would have to be my pick of whats on the market, for value and quality. The are made to last and have a good numbered sealed drag and i have now put them on all my guiding and fly fishing casting/ school rods.
The cheaper Lamson reels- Konic & Guru are also good, but the top end two Lamson reels from what i have seen of them causing line problems i would stay away from until they sort some design issues out.

FLIES
This year for me it was a great year and i got huge feed back from all over the world.about my fly designs. I released quite a few new designs to the range from the killer midge range and then the new deadly range of blowflies and cicadas.
At last the full range is slowly being revealed to all that i have been working on for years.
Next season the full Stu's superior Fly range will be made available to your local fly shop so let them all know, throughout the world.
So soon you will be able to by the most trusted fly designs on the world market that are only tied on the best hooks at your local store.
ADJUSTABLE INDICATORS
The new adjustable indicator system which is made in NZ, has been a huge hit with my customers.
Itīs is so easy to use and adjust, it will free up at least 30mins fishing time in a full day.
For me personally its so good i have put all the other indicator material on special as i can not bring my self to sell anything but this system as it is the best i have ever used and my customers all say the same.

BOOKS
I have personally sold in my wee shop over 60 copies of Derek Grzelewskiīs first ever book - The Trout Diaries- I would say itīs the best fly fishing book i have read.
The comments i have received from many random customers about the book has floored me. These are usually passionate fishermen and women who have basically thanked me or the dream team for recommending this book to them, it has made some grown men cry (especially about the loss of the authors dog), it made many chuckle, it made some smile and most of all it made people want to go fishing and maybe not to catch fish!
The book has been so well received it is turning into a best seller and has just been released in USA and the UK recently. The publisher has already asked the Author to write more- which he is already researching and doing.
VESTS
Fishing vest are sort of old now days, and i canīt see why my customers would buy a fishing vest over a good fishpond pack system for the money.
The top selling fish pond pack vest the Wasatch has been now the top selling pack for the last two years. One size fits anybody and itīs so comfortable to wear and once on, it provides you with access to all the things you need when fishing - i call it my work bench.
The only thing i recommend to all buying one is that they put small cable ties onto the zips and remove the cord. This i find helps me open the pockets easier with wet or cold hands.

DVDS
The Hatch - Dvd that has just been released has to be my favourite. The other night i showed it to another fishing bum. So it was interesting for me to watch him and hear his comments. He basically sat there sucking it all in like a sponge with water. He loved all the slow motion shots of fish rising , taking natural food sources and the pace that the film moved along, show casing different hatches through out the world.
The quality of DVDīs compared to the old days he said was unbelievable. He loved this film.
