 CABIN FEVER & THE 7LB+ DADDY BROWN 

Cabin fever was nearly settling in the other day and it was a beautiful blue sky wind and no wind ,with no customers  around, I decided (had a vision) i needed a photo of my new  special one of a kind  cool Stu's fly shop t-shirt  with a trout! That  a  Mr Chu king of Kung Foo had kindly made me.   If i could just get a big brown to pose for me! for the  next news letter !.

 My other reason was i also wanted to land a fish on my new  Sage, THE ONE  6 wgt  fly rod and do my best to break it!.(in)

Having had a casting lesson booked for later in the day , i only had a 2 hour window! to get my photo for the news letter and be back not smelling like a trout!

I arrived at my spot and top be honest i have never fished that spot for six years or so, But i knew at the start of the season there might be a fish or two around.

 Soon i spotted a fish and by luck a small hatch of small brown may flies were coming off- then the trout started to rise!! WOW -i thought to myself- shaking a little with excitement i tied on 3.5lb fluro tippet and a matching wee brown size 16 dry- Nope! ,he did not want that- Change- a wee 16 emerger, Nope!- a 18 small grey parachute Nope,! a small nz mayfly nymph ,Nope!,.

Then I floated a size 16 King Pogo down to him in the surface film and he gulped that down- a nice 5+ lb brown in the net, Then i landed another just over 3lb and then i spotted a daddy trout! and got him on the floating king pogo- in the net he was just over 7lb and i got my much needed photo! I was a happy man! The King pogo had made the day yet again!

As for the new rod- well ! i gave all the fish heaps and bent it double it has a lot of backbone for a very light rod as for casting etc - i,ll have to come back to that and review it, as i own cast in just under 2hrs, 9 times.What a complaint! :)

When i got back to the shop and the lady walked in for her casting lesson- She said- "Hows your day been Stu"-  "Pretty good !"  if only she knew!

Roy my clients  11lb+ trophy brown by Martin Simpson

YES  !   IT IS NOT A PHOTO !!! 

 There is one artist in the world of fly fishing who is still  pretty much a hidden Gem ,living here in New Zealand and he goes by the name Martin Simpson,  but i know him as the Machine! 

  Last year one of my clients, Roy Diaz landed two trophy browns over 10lbs which was  a pretty amazing .

 I suggested to Roy he might like to have one of them painted , so we took plenty photos of the fish along with all its measurements .

 I knew the very man (or machine) for the job ! 

Just recently Martin finished the painting, and do you think Roy is a happy man! 

If you ever  catch that special fish ,large or small ,You can be sure to have it turned into an awesome piece of art by the Simpson machine!

Letter to the Men's Helpline:  

Hi Andy, I really need your advice on a serious problem: I have suspected for some time now that my wife has been cheating on me. 

The usual signs, if the phone rings and I answer, the caller hangs up,she goes out with the girls a lot. 

I try to stay awake to look out for her when she comes home but I usually fall asleep. 

Anyway last night about midnight I hid in the shed behind the boat. When she came home she got out of someone's car, buttoning her blouse, then she took her panties out of her purse and slipped them on. 

It was at that moment, crouched behind the boat, that I noticed a hairline crack in the outboard engine mounting bracket.

 Is that something I can weld or do I need to replace it ?
