   When parents get connected to the school, children to better. Research shows children, whose parents are involved get better grades, do better on tests and have fewer discipline problems at school.
2. We make a difference:  
   Our mission is to create the kind of school community where the teachers and administration can do their best work, and so can our children.  We provide support for teachers in and out of the classroom. We provide resources they need.  We help created learning opportunities for children, and we try to build the kind of supportive, caring atmosphere that makes school fun. 
3. We pledge to honor your time constraints:
    People are often reluctant to participate because they are afraid they will get pulled into a black hole of never-ending time commitment.  This won't happen here. An hour or two a semester really makes a difference. And we won't push you to commit more then you want or are able. 
4. We have fun:
   Volunteer work should not be drudgery.  We accomplish a lot, and not everything we do is easy. But we have fun and enjoy ourselves along the way. 
5. Meet nice people who share your concerns:
    We all have a common bond. We care about creating the best possible educational experience for our children.  We are neighbors and peers who share many of the same experiences.  And many friendships have developed as a result of those connections. 
6. There's a lot to be done:
   These days, schools are asked to more with less. Our help is needed more then ever to fill the gaps. 
7.  We can match your job to your interest and abilities: The work we do covers a broad spectrum: filing and photo copying, planning and executing events, writing and editing, working directly with children, managing a budget, and cash flow and lots more. WE encourage creative ideas and we are thrilled to have people take on tasks that meet their skills and interests
8. We are welcoming: To us, there are no "outsiders". We are people who have come together to work toward a common goal. We couldn't be happier to have you join us in working us to those goals. 
9. We are about parent involvement, not fundraising.- In these times of tight budgets, parent groups everywhere are having to fill in the gaps, and so are we.  But our number one goal is to get more parents connected to the school. That's because more then 300 independent research studies show that building parent involvement in education is the number one thing we can do to created a great school and improve student performance. 
10. The work is very rewarding: It's seeing the bright light of learning sparkle in the child's eye.  It's seeing the smile that shows we are making school a little more fun- and a child feel a little more comfortable in a learning environment.  It's learning that test scores have risen and knowing we played a role. There are lots of rewards, bot big and small for those who get involved.  Won't you join us.

Fall Fundraiser Turn In date:

The Turn--In date for the fall fundraiser is Tues, Sept. 16th. Thank you so much for your support during our fall fundraiser. You make the difference! The funds raised directly support the students and the classrooms here at GES, so please don't forget to keep selling until the turn-in date!

Early dismissal:   

Rio Grande: Stop by Rio Grande 

at the Target Shopping Center on New Garden anytime on Wednesday, Sept. 17th and enjoy some great food and family time.  A portion of the proceeds from all customers that day come back to GES. 

 

The 1/4 Cent Sales Tax:

We would like to remind you about the 1/4 Cent Education Sales Tax coming up on the next election. It will not be labeled an Education Tax, but 100% of this tax is earmarked for the Guilford County Schools. 60% of the $14 million would go directly to reinstating teachers and assistants in order to lower class sizes and the remaining 40% would go toward school building facilities and resources in order to make much needed improvements. 

Don't Be Late:        

Please have your child walk in the building no later than 7:40 so that your child is not marked tardy.  These tardiesadd up and unfortunately  must be reported to the state system.  

E-communication: 

If you have signed up to receive the weekly electronic communication and are not receiving it, please let your child's teacher know.  Please also check your junk mail in your email box.  We want to make sure you are always connected to the what is going on here at GES.

ACES After School Program:

ACES is still taking enrollment applications.   There is an enrollment fee of $15. The weekly fee is only $46.   Applications can be obtained from the Front Office or the ACES Office. Please contact Mrs. Hardy our ACES Site Coordinator if you are interested, she will be glad to assist you! Her office number is 316-5023 or you may contact her through the school office. Please don't delay You don't want to miss out on the fun!
