Guilford Elementary School is using e-news as a "green" way to keep the Guilford Elementary School community informed about events, updates and life at GES. Emails addresses are never shared, nor sold and are only available to the school.
Many parents expressed concern over the class sizes at GES (as well as other schools across the state). These class sizes are a result of budget cuts, and parents have the opportunity to learn more, and speak up for their students.
Thursday, September 25 - Visioning Session - Share your thoughts about what our school and communities need! Dinner and childcare provided.
6:00 - Dinner Served
6:30-8- Visioning Session /General PTA meeting
Our goal is to serve our members by empowering them to be advocates for children. We encourage inquiries if you are interested in additional information about any particular update.
The North Carolina PTA appreciates and respects the broad spectrum of our members and individual political views. These updates are intended to inform, and they will be nonpartisan and educational.
Good evening, this is Kris Vecchione, principal of Guilford Elementary, calling with a few important announcements for the week of September 8th.
Fall Fundraiser Packets:
Don't forget to keep selling for our fundraiser. The funds from this fundraiser will be used to support reading here at GES. The funds directly support the purchase of the Accelerated Reader program, purchasing more books for the classroom and school libraries, supplies for classrooms, and field trips and school improvement projects. It takes all of us coming together to make GES the best it can be.
Don't Be Late:
Please have your child walk in the building no later than 7:40 so that your child is not marked tardy. These tardies add up and unfortunately must be reported to the state system.
Protecting Instructional Time:
Every time students are checked out early, it not only disrupts their instructional day but also the day of the other students. Please help us in any way you possibly can by not checking out your child within the last half hour of the day. This actually can also cause more mistakes in afternoon dismissal arrangements.
We do understand that sometimes this
is necessary though for appointments. If it is necessary for you to pick up your child early, please remember to do so BEFORE 2:00pm. We want to keep the last half hour of the day, from2:00-2:30 free from any early check-outs.
BOG
Every 3rd grade student will participate in taking the Beginning of Grade Test on September 9, 2014.
Let's Read at GES:
Reading is important here at GES and we want to showcase our great readers. Each week students need to have their reading logs with time recorded. Please make sure to send the reading log in with your child each Friday - our classes will be in competition to see which class has 100% participation of students reading 20 minutes or MORE EACH NIGHT! We want to get excited about our reading!
E-communication:
Please make sure you have signed up to receive our weekly electronic newsletter that includes the weekly message from the principal, upcoming events and other important information about GES. Please visit the GES homepage and click to sign up.
Back to School Bash-Skateland:
Join us for a back to school bash at SkateLand on Tuesday, September 9 from 6:30-9 p.m. Cost is $5/skater and skates are included. Join us for fun, games and prizes. This is a great chance to see all of your friends, GES staff and celebrate being back at GES.
Shoot for the stars:
Our classes are competing against each other to see which classes can bring in the most Boxtops for Education. Each BoxTop that you clip and send in earns $0.10 for our school. Our goal this year is to bring in $1000 just from BoxTops. If each child collects just 17 box tops we will fly past our goal and reach the stars. So start clipping and send in your box tops for education!
ACES After School Program:
ACES is still taking enrollment applications. There is an enrollment fee of $15. The weekly fee is only $46. Applications can be obtained from the Front Office or the ACES Office. Please contact Mrs. Hardy our ACES Site Coordinator if you are interested, she will be glad to assist you! Her office number is 316-5023 or you may contact her through the school office. Please don't delay You don't want to miss out on the fun!
