I hope you've had a great summer so far. With just a few weeks left, we'd like to spread the word about some chances to get involved in protecting and improving Guilford Elementary!

Welcome Back GES Families!  

 

We are so excited to see you at our Open House tonight- Thursday, August 21st, from 5-6 pm here at Guilford Elementary School!    Please free to park in either parking lot but please enter only through the gym doors on the MAIN entrance side so we can be sure to greet your family and you can pick up special items being handed out in the gym.  Once you pass through the gym, you will find your child's name listed on a roster in his or her grade level's hallway. 

 

We look forward to seeing you on Monday, August 25th, when we start back to school bright and early!  Don't forget that students need to be in the classrooms and ready to start learning at 7:45am so that they are not marked tardy.   For car riders, doors will open at 7:35 for students walking to class but students may also opt to enter the gym at 7:00am and wait or go to the cafeteria as early as 7:00am to eat.  

 

Please HELP us make the first day a wonderful first day for your child and ENSURE that your child's teacher knows EACH day how your child will be going home.  Many children change modes of transportation during the first few weeks and we want to be sure this is right for your child.   Dismissal will begin at 2:30pm.  

 

We look forward to seeing you soon.  This way we know that we will have a safe, fun-filled, learning environment!

Are You Ready? Tips to Start the School Year

 

Here's a few tips to get you in gear for a great year!

1. Update your immunizations and  allergy readiness.
2. Review your child's  curriculum for the new year.
3. Review the School Report Card
4. Get to know the staff in your school and what they do for students.
5. Learn what's happening with  school nutrition in the cafeteria.
6. Learn about ways to be involved in your child's education. 
7. Read about  Parent Leave in NC.
8. Be informed about the  education debate in our state.
9. Find out about Home Base in your school.
10. Find out what the PTA does at your school. 
11. Get involved by joining your local school PTA.
12. Invite a teacher, friend or business leader to volunteer through the PTA.

 

The GES PTA is more then fundraising.

• Provides the Accelerated Reader program which encourages students to read and achieve goals. 
• Provides the Accelerated Reader store for students to celebrate their success and an opportunity to use their AR points to purchase prizes. 
• Provides the funding for Cheetah Cart and celebrations to celebrate the success of our students in the GES behavior system. 
• Helping increase classroom and school libraries resources through book fairs and other resources. 
• Providing resources to classroom teachers and grade levels through mini-grants and other resources. 
• Reading Buddies Program

• Speaking up for Every Child
• Reaching out to all families through ESL, EC and Grade Level Parent Representatives
• Working with local, state and national organizations to speak up for the needs of our students.
