Male Involvement at GES

The GES PTA wants to thank Mr. Angel Guerrero (who was highlighted in the Greensboro News and Record for his Involvement with Guilford County Schools) for coming to our Family Night on October 22, to help us kick off our Male Involvement Program at GES.

Mr. Grerrero spoke about how Male Role Models make a difference in schools. " in a child's focus and help reduce disciplinary issues, such as bullying, Guerrero said.  Other dads have shared that-  "Every father wants to be engaged, but some may think they're too busy,  There are small ways to get involved, such as reading communications from the schools that would typically go to the mother and by joining the PTA even if you can't make every meeting, he said. The PTA is "not just a club or a social thing, "It's about one voice for every child and finding ways to be that voice and to better help the community."

GES wants to build Male Involvement at GES and is inviting all dads and male role models to a Doughnuts for dads breakfast on Tuesday, Nov. 19th at 7:00 a.m. in the GES library.  We want to invite all Dad's and male role models to bring their sons and daughters to this kick off event.  Please click here to RSVP.

Reading Buddies Program
What is Reading Buddies?

Reading Buddies is a group of high school students and adults working one-on-one with elementary school students on a weekly basis. They read books; tell stories; and play word games, anything to help the younger students become better readers.

How often do I meet with my "Reading Buddy?"

Reading Buddies ideally meet 2x/ twice a week for 30 minutes each. This varies based on the needs of the students and the availability of the volunteer.

How do I know how to be a "Reading Buddy?"

Our Reading Resource Teacher- Ms. Terry Whitfield will provide training for all reading buddies and help you know Click here for complete article

Thursday was the Parent Breakfast and "Grand" lunch with lots of students being visited by "special" guests during breakfast or lunch.  Then after lunch we had another special guest - Anthony "Ant" Atkinson  from the Harlem Globetrotters spoke to our GES students about the ABC's of Bullying.  The Cheetah Mascot made a special appearance that day and then again on Friday, during the
