When is it?
Where is it?
Guilford Elementary School
What is it?
The students have been working all year learning the material that is tested on the End of Grades tests. During the week before EOG, we want to
encourage our students and let them know that they can be successful.
The focus of the week will be "Example of Greatness".
There are different events planned through out
the week to help students realize that they can be successful, have fun and do great things as they enter the EOG week.

Road map to reading
|

Reading can take you places you've never been before. In the case of Guilford County Schools (GCS), it will take students on a coast-to-coast journey from Cape Hatteras to San Francisco.
On Friday, GCS announced its newest literacy initiative, Roadmap 2 Reading . All GCS students will be challenged to read 20 minutes per day outside of their classroom work and record their minutes. Those minutes will be counted as miles as students record their progress across the country.
Each student will strive to move the 3,114 miles across the country by the next State of Our Schools event in January 2014. The district will also track its progress as a whole by taking the total number of minutes read and dividing that by the number of students.
"Children who are frequent readers have been shown to perform better in the classroom, spend more time volunteering and work in higher-paying jobs after school," says Dr. Beth Folger, Chief Academic Officer. "Roadmap 2 Reading gives our students a clear and easy guideline to follow to help them become more avid readers."
Parents can help students on their journey....

ACES SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT-
The ACES students feel it is important to take care of school and personal property! For their Service Learning Project this year they have chosen to continue a school beautification project that was started last year. They adopted the area by the ACES door at the front of the building. We have planted bulbs and now this year we have added 9 Knock Out Rose Bushes. The children have worked on keeping the area free of weeds and are very proud of the beautiful bushes they have added to beautify their school.
