OXFAM: Disaster Recovery Response Report on 2011/2012 Floods
The report presents the findings of an effectiveness review carried out on Oxfam's response to the 2011/12 floods in Pakistan that was undertaken through the application of Oxfam's Humanitarian Indicator Tool. The cumulative score of 19 indicates an overall response partially meeting Oxfam's quality standards. The report provides examples of how learning from the previous flood response were incorporated into the 2011/12 response and how the longer term focus on DRR contributed to effectiveness with good examples linking research and programme experience to influencing strategies. Oxfam Pakistan supported a moot court, conducted at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts, was convened in a bid to collectively mark 16 Days of Activism to End Violence Against Girls and Women, an annual campaign that lasts between November 25 and December 10.Parliamentarians, civil society members and UK Deputy High Commissioner Alison Blake attended the court.
As the mock court case progressed, proceedings transformed to resemble those of parliament, making a candid point that ending violence against women is a legislative issue which then needs to be implemented and enforced effectively in the courts. The debate focused specifically on acid crimes and domestic violence. The debate also touched upon the political empowerment of women and getting more girls into school.
UK Deputy High Commissioner Alison Blake said, "Investing in girls and women is transformational - for themselves, their families, and their communities. The UK is deeply committed to supporting Pakistan to empower women and to end violence against them."

UK Aid:
International Development Secretary Justine Greening said:
"We are close to living in a polio-free world and this commitment to help vaccinate a further 29 million children gets us a big step nearer to achieving that goal. "The Prime Minister's leadership has already persuaded countries and other funders to commit an extra £200 million of support since 2011. The greater the number of funders and countries joining the fight, the closer we get to realising a future in which no child is paralysed by this disease. The UK is meeting its commitments." The funding will help the Global Polio Eradication Initiative conduct immunisation activities. In the next two years, more than three billion doses of oral polio vaccine will be needed to immunise young children. Funding is also required for activities such as surveillance and technical assistance. http://www.dfid.gov.uk/News/Latest-news/2012/Polio-Britain-to-vaccinate-29-million-children/
