Dear St. Joseph's RCS Families,
Today we celebrated our May Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was a beautiful ceremony, and great to see Mary surrounded by all the flowers that were brought in for the celebration!
Book Fair is Here! This week is our buy one get one free book fair. Be sure to stop in during your child's scheduled time, or during recess or lunch to see what our spring book fair has to offer.
This week we will celebrate an all school Mass on Wednesday at 8:15 am. Please join us if you are available! Other events that we are looking forward to this week include our National Junior Honors Society Induction Ceremony on Friday, and our First Holy Communion
for our 2nd grade students that attend St. Joseph Church. A final reminder that our end of the year scantron testing has begun. Please click HERE to view the testing calendar.
I will be competing in the Columbia Triathlon, the Diamondman Challenge, and Ironman Maryland for a good cause! The first race, on May 15th will be a 32 mile triathlon, the second will be a 70.3 mile half-ironman on September 10th, and the final race will be a 140.6 mile Ironman on October 1st. I'm hoping all the miles I spend training for these races will result in funds raised towards our Principal's Emergency Tuition Assistance fund. If you would like to donate towards this cause, please visit our school website www.stjosrcs.org and click the DONATE button at the bottom of the page. Under the add instructions link, type RUN. Thank you to all of you have already helped donate to this cause!

Rain Can't Stop Us from Reading!
|
Even though it was raining, the Pre-K and Kindergarten students got to go on a walking field trip to the Public Library. Ms. Ashley, one of the librarians, read some of her favorite stories about "Library Books." She also had us dancing to some of her favorite songs. We listened to one story about "Library manners," after which the students reminded Ms. Ashley to "never color on the pages!" Afterwards, we got to go on a full tour of the library and had Drop Everything and Read time. Many students even got to pick out some books they might want to check out from the public Library. I guess it just goes to show, there's no better way to spend a rainy day then curled up with your favorite book!

Teacher Appreciation Week May2-6, 2016
|
Oh! How We Love Our Teachers! Teachers give us so much. And though we know we can't ever thank them enough, we can take a moment during Teacher Appreciation Week to share our appreciation for the special educators in our lives.
In an effort to get ALL parents and students involved in honoring the teachers, St. Joseph's RCS will have a "theme-a-day" schedule. Each day, the teacher can be presented with a small token relevant to the theme of that day.
Parents can choose any day of the week to help their children show their gratitude to their teachers. Some may choose to participate every day and others may want to choose just one day.
The idea is to get parents and students to show our teachers that their love and dedication haven't gone unnoticed.
Please remember the teachers who are sometimes overlooked, such as computer, music, band, PE, art, Spanish, library and resource teachers.
Here are the suggested themes:
Monday, May 2
- "Love from the Kitchen" - Bring your teachers a homemade or store bought treat; an item to use in the kitchen (candle, special soap), or purchase a restaurant/coffee shop gift certificate.
Tuesday, May 3 (National Teacher Day!) - "Words from the Heart" - Students and parents can write a personal note, a poem, or draw a special picture for their teachers. (This is probably the most important, easiest, and most meaningful!)
Wednesday, May 4
- "Supplies!" We love our Classroom! - Suggestions include school supplies that get used up quickly (pencils/loose leaf/construction paper), a book from the Scholastic Book Fair (held at St. Joseph's May 2-6) for the classroom, personalized notepads, sharpie/dry erase markers.
Thursday, May 5
- "Body, Mind, Spirit" - What teacher wouldn't love some hand cream, a book store gift certificate, religious item, or a massage/nail salon gift certificate, to help remind them to pamper themselves?
Friday, May 6
- "Leisure Time" - Health and fitness accessories, colorful beach bag, drink mix and a fancy pitcher, home improvement store gift certificate, sporting event tickets, travel accessories.
We hope that this themed approach will act as a springboard for creative ideas to recognize our teachers.
Please feel free to participate as much or as little as you would like.
Thanks for helping our teachers realize how important they are in the lives
of the students and parents of St. Joseph's Regional Catholic School!
