From the Principal's Office

Dear St. Joseph's RCS Families, Wow, we are in the last full week before Easter Break. Where has the time gone? 3rd grade through 8th grade had a wonderful time at the Baltimore Museum of Industry today. Be sure to ask your child what they learned! While they enjoyed their field trip, St. Joseph's RCS added a new staff member, Mrs. Carole Veihmeyer. She will be our long term substitute for music for the remainder of the year. She is very excited to be teaching music to all of your children. Please help me welcome Mrs. Veihmeyer!
We are looking forward to celebrating Multicultural Night this Saturday, March 19th! The Multicultural Mass will begin at 5:00 PM and dinner will begin at 6:00 PM. Please be sure to bring your favorite cultural dish! Our students are excited to share their cultural dress, dance, history, and song. We hope to share this night with you, and all 30+ cultures represented through our school! For further information please visit our website and find the multicultural night tab.
The word is getting out about St. Joseph's RCS. Thank you to all of our families and teachers for making St. Joseph's RCS such a great place, and sharing your experience with your neighbors and friends. We have a lot of new families interested in enrolling for next year! New families entering K-8th, you may enroll online http://stjosrcs.org/registration/ by clicking on the TADS link. To register for our PRE-K program please download the PRE-K registration form from our website and bring or mail to the school office.
You may now register for our 3rd annual5k Race and 1 mile Fun Run on May 14th. Follow the linkHERE and choose the appropriate link to register as a parent or student. More information came home today in the Monday communication folder, and paper registrations will be coming in a few short weeks.
St. Joseph's RCS will have our 2nd annual Vacation Bible School this summer July 11th-15th. We had a wonderful time last year sharing a faith filled journey with our camp attendees. We look forward to doing the same this summer! Registration forms came home today in the Monday folder.
Mrs. Miller and I ran the Rock n' Roll DC half marathon this past Saturday. We both finished with new personal records! In addition to the enjoyment of running in a race, we ran to raise funds to create a Principal's emergency tuition assistance fund. If you would like to donate towards this cause, please visit our school website www.stjosrcs.org and click the DONATE button at the bottom of the page. Under the add instructions link, type RUN. If you would like to donate for any other reason, please use the same link and provide us with instructions on how you would like us to use your donation! The next race for me will be in September, the Diamondman Challenge. I'm hoping the miles I put in for training for this 76.3 mile half ironman will transpire into dollars raised for our families in need. Thank you to all of you who have already helped donate to this cause!
Here are some important events to mark your calendar for. Mr. Hooker's Math and Fitness Challenge: Mr. Hooker ran the Rock n' Roll half marathon (13.1 miles) last Saturday. He finished in 1:39 (1 hour 39 minutes). What was his average pace per mile?

Rice Bowls for Lent
|
This Lent our school will once again participate in CRS Rice Bowl, a faith-in-action program that will help you experience Lenten spirituality by living in solidarity with people in need around the world.
As we, the global Church, continue our prayerful walk through this Holy Year of Mercy, it is especially appropriate to come together in prayer as a family this Lent, reflecting on how we can live this call to mercy more abundantly.
Use your cardboard CRS Rice Bowl and Lenten Calendar to guide your Lenten prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
As a family, read the Stories of Hope and daily reflections to inspire your Lenten journey-and motivate your Lenten giving.
Prepare simple, meatless meals on Fridays throughout Lent to eat in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world.
Be sure to visit crsricebowl.org to watch videos of the people and communities whose lives your Lenten gifts are changing through CRS Rice Bowl.
We will be collecting your CRS Rice Bowls at the end of Lent, Friday, April 8.
Thank you for using CRS Rice Bowl with your family this Lent.
Did you know that CRS Rice Bowl has a free Lenten app? Download it for iPhone or Android devices and get daily Lenten reflections right on your phone.

March Family Night Out--3/21 Franklin's
|
Monday, March 21 is our next family night out! The restaurant is Franklins in downtown Hyattsville on Route One just south of the University of Maryland. They have an award-winning microbrew and serve locally sourced food. Adjacent to the restaurant it's a very eclectic and unique general store. Let someone else cook on that night and come join fellowship with St. Joseph's Regional Catholic School Families. And help earn money for our school! Have a great time! Special thank you to our family night Chairman Mr Rathbun for getting great local restaurants to participate in our family night program. See you there Monday, March 21!
