Dear St. Joseph's RCS Families, Welcome to the third week of Lent. The weather has warmed up enough to allow for some much needed outdoor recess. Some of this week's excitement include our 2nd grade students celebrating their first Penance this past Saturday, science fair set up begins tomorrow, and we will finish our week with stations of the cross at 12:30 pm. Please join us!
I would like to thank all of our parents that were able to attend our Math Olympics this past Friday. I know the students loved being mixed up with other grades, and always enjoy being able to show mom and dad what they are learning! We'll be looking for more opportunities for parents to come in to see what their children are learning as the weather continues to warm up. We hope to see you then!
Open Registration has begun! For new families entering K-8th, you may enroll online http://stjosrcs.org/registration/ by clicking on the TADS link. To register for our PRE-K program please download the PRE-K registration form from our website and bring or mail to the school office. We have several new applications coming in, especially in our younger grades. Please be prompt in submitting your application, and ensure to log back into TADS to complete the enrollment process.
We will have another Open House this Saturday, March 5 from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM. If you are interested in helping out in anyway for this open house, please contact me or Mrs. Miller.
Multicultural Night is right around the corner. Our students are researching and preparing presentations, dances, and songs to celebrate the 30+ countries and cultures represented throughout our school. We hope to see you there on March 19th to enjoy the amazing night of food, fun, and fancy dress!
Looking ahead to the spring we should be able to enjoy some great weather for our 3rd annual 5k Race and 1 mile Fun Run on March 14th. Registration is now open for parents HERE. Students will receive paper registration sheets for registering at a discounted rate in the coming weeks.
As we continue to look at improving the school building, we are excited to be able to finish tiling all of the floors this summer, as well as update the middle school bathrooms with new countertops and sinks! Thanks to all of our families' donations and fundraising efforts by our Home and School Association, we have raised enough money to cover the cost of the floors and bathrooms. We also received $27,525 from the Maryland Aging Schools Grant to replace the exterior doors, but we still need about $30,000 more. Would you like to help? You can donate towards this cause at our school website www.stjosrcs.org by clicking the DONATE button at the bottom of the page.

Note Cards From Your Child (Fundraiser for Art) |
The art room is doing a fundraiser to purchase more exciting supplies! Each child is designing a note card based on the Georgia O'Keefe's flowers. The cards will be about 5 ¼ X 4 and each card will have your child's name, the year, the name of the school and city on the back.
After their design is finished, I will send home the artwork home with an order form for you to see. If you want the cards you will send back with a check. Each box contains 10 cards and are $14.95 a box. If you have any question feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing all the children's creations in print!

Rice Bowls for Lent
|
This Lent our school will once again participate in CRS Rice Bowl, a faith-in-action program that will help you experience Lenten spirituality by living in solidarity with people in need around the world.
As we, the global Church, continue our prayerful walk through this Holy Year of Mercy, it is especially appropriate to come together in prayer as a family this Lent, reflecting on how we can live this call to mercy more abundantly.
Use your cardboard CRS Rice Bowl and Lenten Calendar to guide your Lenten prayer, fasting and almsgiving.
As a family, read the Stories of Hope and daily reflections to inspire your Lenten journey-and motivate your Lenten giving.
Prepare simple, meatless meals on Fridays throughout Lent to eat in solidarity with our brothers and sisters around the world.
Be sure to visit crsricebowl.org to watch videos of the people and communities whose lives your Lenten gifts are changing through CRS Rice Bowl.
We will be collecting your CRS Rice Bowls at the end of Lent, Friday, April 8.
Thank you for using CRS Rice Bowl with your family this Lent.
Did you know that CRS Rice Bowl has a free Lenten app? Download it for iPhone or Android devices and get daily Lenten reflections right on your phone.
