From the Principal's Office

Dear St. Joseph's RCS Families,

Welcome to Catholic Schools Week. I'm very excited for the many events we have planned for this week. Today's DEAR time was wonderful, as the whole school spent time sharing their books with a partner from another grade. I'm sure the remainder of our activities will be equally joyful. We are still looking for parents to share a little about their career with Pre-K-2nd and middle school grades. Please let us know if you are interested in participating in our career day on February 4th by following the sign up genius link towards the bottom of the newsletter..

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the students that were brave enough to speak at Mass this weekend. I wish I was able to see all of you speak! It makes me very proud to have students that are so willing to help spread the great news about St. Joseph's RCS.

Reenrollment is open for the 2016-2017 school year. For more information please find the Registration section in the newsletter. This information can also be found by following the link on our twitter page, the school website, or in the school reach that went home today. Remember, open enrollment begins this week for new families interested in attending for the 2016-2017 school year.

We continue focus on improving our math abilities and performance. I hope the ideas I shared and the website can be helpful. The website I shared can be found HERE. With a common focus, we can make extraordinary gains! STUDY THOSE MATH FACTS!

SCANTRON TESTING is almost complete. Due to the snow we will be making a few adjustments to make sure everyone has completed their mid-year test in both reading and math.

Mr. Hooker's Math and Fitness Challenge: Mr. Hooker swam 500 yds in 10 minutes today. If he swims at this pace and does not stop, how long will it take him to swim 2,100 yds?

Bonus (two prizes): Mr. Hooker has to swim 2,100 yds without stopping by August 1st. Today he swam 500 yds without stopping. If he increases his distance at an even rate every week, how many yds will he need to increase every week to reach his goal of 2,100 yds? (rounded to nearest tenth)

Registration
2016-2017 Student Registration

St. Joseph's Regional Catholic School and the Archdiocese of Washington Catholic Schools Office are using TADS, an on-line system, for re-registration and new student enrollment. Current families have received an e-mail from TADS/St. Joseph's Regional Catholic School. Please follow that link in the e-mail to complete the re-registration forms for your family. This link is unique for your family.

The Parish Verification and the Agreement for Parish Service & Support forms are available on the TADS website and need to be completed and returned to the school office as part of the re-registration process. All families must complete the Parish Verification Form. The Agreement for Parish Support & Service must be completed by all practicing Catholic families. Parishioners of St. Hugh of Grenoble, St. Joseph's Beltsville and St. Nicholas may return the forms without the pastor's signature; the school office will forward them as a group to the appropriate rectories.

For all new siblings (including students entering Kindergarten from our Pre-K program) parents must complete a new admission application, which can be accessed in TADS via a link on the school website. The $100.00 re-registration fee will cover the new siblings; you will not need to pay the $150.00 application fee.

New Student Application Kindergarten - 8th grade ONLY - TADS Website

Pre-K applications must be completed and submitted through the school office.

Failure to re-register by February 2, 2016, may result in your child/children being removed from the school roster, requiring you to re-apply for admission, pay the $150.00 application fee, and risk the vacancy being filled. All tuition and fees for the 2015-2016 school year must be paid in full by April 30, 2016 in order to be accepted for the following school year.

Weekly Family Math Night Activity
Spring may be just around the corner, let's play a little Math Golf with this Par 3 Math game and have some great family competitions in this week's fun Family Math Activity.

Note Cards From Your Child (Fundraiser for Art)

After their design is finished, I will send home the artwork home with an order form for you to see. If you want the cards you will send back with a check. Each box contains 10 cards and are $14.95 a box. If you have any question feel free to contact me. I look forward to seeing all the children's creations in print!

Scholastic Book Fair Is Here!
Our second Scholastic Book Fair of the school year is February 1 - 5.  The fair is open Monday through Thursday from 8 AM to 2 PM, and Friday from 8 AM to 12:00 noon

As always, our school is collecting funds for our All for Books program. By donating $1, you help us to purchase books for classroom libraries, give more children greater access to books, and help get more kids reading, and kids reading more. Please check your communications envelope this week for more information and a book slip.

The All for Books money we collect also helps readers beyond our school and community. Scholastic Book Fairs matches monetary donations with a donation of up to one million books to the Kids In Need Foundation and Kids in Distressed Situations, Inc. Please send your donation and a book slip back to school with your child.  Each Book Slip with dollar donation will be entered into a drawing for individual prizes, and the class that raises the most money will be treated to a popsicle party, so please be sure to include your child's name and grade on each slip!
